It is a known fact that human beings neglect the majestic part of Mother Nature… the sea. The sea provides us the food, transportation, recreation and natural resources. Sadly, the mistreatment of the sea from man-made disasters from overfishing and countless oil spill disasters like the Deepwater Horizon have driven this one Squid Girl into extreme dissatisfaction. As a result, she wants world domination so that human beings will never mistreat the sea.
The problem is… nobody really takes her seriously because she looks like a child…
When I looked at the Ika Musume when she wanted to take over a food stand on the beach, she is a really cute and full of moe. Her hair is based off the squid’s tentacles, which she uses to trap Eiko and her bother, Takeru. Too bad her tentacles were not used for something a bit more naughty. In addition, Ika does not know much about the world. In a way, Ika could be compared to Kobato who was a very naïve girl.
Out of the characters I had seen so far, Chizuru is awfully nice to a point that she could be considered as an oujo. Underneath her kindness is her other personality where she opens her eyes that glares and scare the crap out of you. So basically, you do not want to get her mad.
The basic premise of the story is that Ika Musume wants to take over human kind, but she needs a base to work from. She tries to take over the food stand. In the end, her plans did not succeed as she ends up making a big hole in the wall. As a result of her damages to the stand, she has to work for the sisters to pay off her debt.
Seems simple, right? From what I have seen from the first episode, I think the show will do pretty well since its cute and laidback. Its stuff like the girls and their brother teasing and abusing Ika is what contributes to the show’s comedy.
Overall, I think the show has a lot of potential. There is a high likelihood that I would continue to watch this show since it’s a fun and laid back comedy slice of life.
