Amagami SS – Haruka “Lovely” Morishima Arc Final Impressions

July 25, 2010 by Chikorita157 7 Comments
It looks like they are going to have a good family...

As Haruka’s arc begins, we saw a few good scenes that came out of the arc. The excitement happened as a result of Haruka having an enthusiastic personality. Does our male lead, Junchi reaches his goal of finally getting a lover on Christmas Eve? We will find out soon enough.

Haruka’s arc is rather fun to watch mainly because of her personality. She always want to have fun in life and also tease the male lead. She does so by kissing in unusual areas such as the bridge of Junchi’s eyebrows and the infamous puppy kiss on the back of Haruka’s knee. Besides the kisses, Haruka’s drags Junchi everywhere such as the school’s swimming pool and library, and the hotel’s swimming pool. Lastly, you cannot forget the over the top kidnapper roleplay when Junichi spoons feeds Haruka while Haruka pretended that her hands were tied up. The role-play scene was easily the best scene from the whole arc ever.

Junchi on the other hand is so bland and empty headed that it’s not even funny. He is very shy and seems to be concerned about his love for instead of giving affection to Haruka. He have girls tell him what he should do instead of doing what he wants to do.He is so indecisive that it takes a long time before doing something to/for the girl. For instance, Junchi stood there just figure out how to kiss Haruka in the shed. Good male leads knows what to do with their girl most of the time and not be indecisive. Junchi’s indecisiveness is a big problem in the whole arc, especially when he doesn’t go and peek at Haruka while she was taking a bath. Heck, Haruka wants him to do it, so why didn’t he go for it? Junchi is too concerned about Haruka stop liking him that he won’t do it. This is abnormal since its normal male behavior when the girl have a good relationship with the boy… That means, Junchi isn’t a normal male then? Who knows…

The conclusion ended rather nicely, but not as exciting as the last episode. There were a few things that stood out. First is Haruka’s middle name, which is unusual. Her middle name is “Lovely,” which is laughable since I never heard a name that sounds like a word before. Most people normally have normal middle names in their normal language, but Haruka has to be special since she is Junchi’s girl after all… Second, we finally get to see Haruka in a bikini, not in a school swimsuit. Lastly, she finally kisses Junchi on the lips, acknowledging that their relationship have gone to another level, thus making the relationship more important.

Not to mention, they finally got married and Junchi works as a detective to preserve peace and to protect his wife, Haruka.

In the end, Haruka’s arc was decent, but nothing groundbreaking. Some may be disappointed since they haven’t adapt the bad ending. However, it was a good choice for the producers to go with the good ending so the arc will give a sense of satisfaction to their viewers. Hopefully they will continue this trend when they start Kaoru Tanamachi’s (also known as “Sex Hair”) arc when they throw in dome more outrageous scenes we saw in the past.

Verdict

7.8/10, C+

It’s like we were watching a different show entirely.. Junichi was the one that did all the real work in their relationship. He *was* decisive. She never gave him any signs that she really liked him, yet needed to hear it from him three times before she was satisifed, as though his actions didn’t make it pitifully obvious. It felt like she was a head case that was never examined in the story.. her personality made very little sense.

All in all, the story was just way too rushed. I sure didn’t get the impression that she loved him at all.. maybe she was a bit enamoured of his ability to put up with her nonsense, but that’s about it. She was interesting, but in a “wtf” way. And he was boring, save for his ability to be open and honest about his desperation (which was also a bit wtf). I didn’t really feel any chemistry from them at all, unless it was being forced in a wtf moment.

Yes, the arc was a bit rush compared to other visual novel adaptions, especially when the show jumped into Haruka’s arc without introducing any of the characters enough… It would be better if they slow down and focused the arcs and character more in detail, but it didn’t happen.

No, it’s just the end of Haruka’s arc as the title suggests… There are 9 episodes left in the season and several more arcs to cover.

Eh, people feel weird things in odd situations… she was just a teenage girl… and if it worked out in the long run, good for them?
