I lied about not trying out any of the Summer 2010 Anime. I decided to check out Amagami SS since everyone in the blogosphere was talking about it and there isn’t many things I can do in Wisconsin. From looking at it, Amagami SS was a pretty enjoyable show from the two episodes I watched so far.
This is a two episode taste test. This is the overall impressions I have for this series over the two episodes. The third episode will ultimately decide if I should continue the series or drop it.
Meet Tachibana, the male lead of this show who seems to be dissatisfied about being companionless during Christmas Eve two years ago (sounds familiar?). He meets a very attractive girl named Haruka Morishima who seems to be at top of the class and is a senior. She is very energetic and wants to do things. She even like cute animals like puppies and look at them in books. Of course a harem wouldn’t be complete without a shitload of cute girls that want him too. Lastly, he has his very annoying young sister, Miya who she gets angry at him when he does the “idiot smile” when Haruka comes… Miya gets pretty envious because Haruka pretty much tops her in every category.
Haruka is a rather strange genki girl and an indecisive one at best. In the first episode, she outright rejects him. However, in the second episode, she says that she likes him and even kisses him at the end of the episode! I would have thought that the male lead would be more indecisive, but I guessed wrong. Another thing I did like about her is that she is rather energetic. For example, in the second episode, she drags Tachibana to the swimming pool because she wanted to swim, but Hibiki won’t let her.
Amagami SS pretty much feels like a generic harem, but I found it rather enjoyable. There were rather cute and funny moments such as the one where Kaoru and Tachibana threw paper balls at each other while the teacher was teaching. These made me laugh. Also, it had pretty good animation since it looked pretty stylish and colorful. Overall, I think Amagami SS has a lot of potential of being good as long the male lead don’t turn out to be indecisive… It seems to be the weak point of all harem Anime these days, but just hope it doesn’t happen.
Another note: Amagami SS is a visual novel adaptation of the Amagami visual novel that released last year… Good timing as that doesn’t happen often.
