2009 was a pretty dismal year for the economy in general, but not for Anime… I will be discussing several moments in Animes I watched that were good to the ones that are horrible. Let’s start with the bad, shall we.
The Outright Horrible
The following are the bad moments of Anime ranging to replacing a panty shot with a striped bowl and the notorious Endless Eight disaster.
Endless Eight? It’s more like Endless Sh** – Suzumiya Haruhi S2
I think this is pretty much fresh in our minds… If you recall, I wrote several posts on this pointless arc ever. Endless Eight adapted in anime form was so bad it’s horrible because of the repetition. Haruhiists try to spin it by saying the artwork is better or rating Endless Eight a 7 or higher… Oh, don’t forget the endless rage on AnimeSuki, 4chan/ 2chan, Twitter, MyAnimeList and several other blogs… and people actually thought the whole season will be Endless Eight… Who cared if Kyoto Animation animated each episode of Endless Eight from scratch, I rather watch another season of K-ON! than watch this crap… and Kadokawa pretty much ruined Kyoto Animation’s reputation somewhat… which explains why Key haven’t done Little Busters with them yet… or perhaps they jump ship and probably want PA Works do it anyways.
Endless Eight, despite what the Haruhiists say is the biggest anime disaster in anime history.
Super Sh** and K-ONification of Haruhi – Suzumiya Haruhi S2 (again)
While most Haruhiists say Super Driver is the best thing to slice bread, after I heard it, IT MADE MY EARS BLEED… Super Driver was the worst song Hirano Aya ever sung (besides the other songs she had sung) and I keep complaining how bad that song is on melative. Admit it, it’s the worst OP the Haruhi series had ever… Hopefully the movie will have a better OP. Then again, Hirano Aya wasn’t a great singer to begin with and only sounded good with the advancement of studio technology… well yeah…
Another list on te complaints is the K-ONification of Haruhi… Well, Haruhiists ever since K-ON! aired bash K-ON! for the reason for Haruhi Second Season was delayed… It sorta backfired when they got the taste of their medicine when Haruhi gets the K-ON! treatment… I have written several times in my episodic posts on Sighs that the animation quality have dropped and that K-ON! art style should stay in K-ON!. Sadly, the K-ON! art style is also in Kannagi and another winter anime that is coming up called So Ra No Wo To and guess who animate both of these… A-1 Pictures!
Thankfully, the animation quality did improve towards the end of Sighs… but it was already too late since I gave the whole season an F.
Where is the Panty Shot? – K-ON!
When we think about KyoAni, fanservice don’t come in mind. While most animes are so generous with fanservice like Kampfer, KyoAni decides to replace the panty shot with a bowl of rice when Mio trips on a cord in K-ON! Episode 6. Some person raged about it and comparing it to School Day’s Nice Boat. Just remember, Kyoto Animation hates panty shots…

Haruhi-chan and… Nice Boat? – Suzumiya Haruhi-chan
How low can Kadokawa go? Well, Kadokawa have enraged the Haruhiists by the dozen by uploading a video which is supposed to be Episode 1 of Haruhi-chan, but what they got is a video of NICE BOATS. We can finally conclude that Kadokawa are the biggest trolls ever.

Moments in anime that are neither bad or good… Just average…
The Almost Kiss… When will they actually Kiss? – Nogizaka Haruka S2
If you have been following Nogizaka Haruka Purezza, you know what I’m talking about. There were three episodes that employs this, the Christmas episode when Haruka and Yuuto go into a arkward position and he tries to kiss her, but gets interrupted by Mika. Another instance is when they in a shred, while Haruka was undressing, she and Yuuto falls. Yuuto almosts kisses Haruka, but a mop fell and hits Yuuto’s head. In a recent episode, Yuuto nearly kisses Haruka when he is interrupted by Mika again…
I mean, how long can they keep this running gag of the almost kiss? The writers must be having fun with this and saving it for the end… Pretty much all the viewers have lost hope for Yuuto ever kissing Haruka on the lips on this season… or is it?
At least there is a redeeming factor to this… Haruka and Yuuto moments are ridiculously sweet that it becomes a guilty pleasure. Yeah, there were sweet moments in the first season, but this season is alot more sweeter that it causes TV diabetes.
The Beach Scene? Were we there before? –K-ON!
A minor complaint to K-ON!, but there were two beach episodes with the girls wanting to have fun instead of practicing while Mio and later on, Azusa wants to practice. Oddly enough, the content of these episodes were the same with a few differences… Azusa was in the second beach episode and she gets a dark tan!
The Best
Ken and the Loli – Seitokai no Ichizon
You never knew that Ken was a lolicon. With Episode 8, meet Elise, Lilicia’s younger sister who causes everyone else in the student council to be jealous, especially Kurimu. There were several funny scenes. The most notable is when they play Shiritori and Elise names everything with Aluminium in the end, which causes Ken to scream out. Afterwards, they play a normal game, but Elise this time uses Sneaker, Dengeki, Super Dash and Famitsu, names of light novel publishers…
Another important moment to Ken’s indecisiveness is when Elise-chan asks to marry Ken, but Ken, although flattered want her to grow up first and promise her even though she might not be beautiful or become fat in the future. This reaction causes Kurimu to ultimately flip out because Ken said he will stop loving her if she got fat and want him to get out and Ken didn’t care about that and claims that he is a “horrible lolicon bastard who judges girls by their appearance.” Ken knowing something in the past, pats her on the head, which causes the other girls to become jealous for picking the president over them. Whoops… I think Ken already blew his dream of having his harem already. Also, if Lilicia is so interested in Ken so much, why not join his harem? Then again, each episode gets even better so…
And don’t forget Chizuru’s cute catchphrase, Mokyuu~
K-ON! and it’s overwhelming Popularity – K-ON!
Despite the minority of K-ON! bashers saying it’s a pointless moeblob show, It was still well acclaimed by the number of CDs (552,491 sold from April to August) and Blu-ray discs sold. Cagayake GIRLS and Don’t say “lazy” took over No1 and 2 spots, thus Crowning Music of Awesome. The music was that good that many people decided to play the music of K-ON! on their Guitars and other instruments. Yep, it was that popular and nobody knew at first it would be that popular… Heck, the overall rating of K-ON! on MAL was higher than Haruhi S2… It seems that the popularity of Lucky Star style anime went on, some what.
Crowning Heartwarming of Awesomeness – Clannad ~After Story~
Despite the minority of complaints about the use of Deus ex machina in the end of Clannad ~After Story~, it could of been alot worse, but Kyoto Animation did the impossible. They were able to adapt the ending of the Clannad Visual Novel of the After Story arcand did it pretty well with beautiful results. It was a difficult task because the Clannad Visual Novel had a non-linear story line like with most visual novels.
Nagisa and Ushio lives and everyone lives their happy lives… Well, the deaths are for nothing because Tomoya have to learn not to be like his father and redeem himself by not doing completely the same to Ushio. After he experiences this, he can earn his happy ending… Then again, Clannad is one of the recent masterpieces of visual novel adaptations besides Kanon and Air.
Not to mention, they didn’t left Kyou out in the cold and adapted her arc in a OVA, although it was missing a lot of stuff from the visual novel due to time constraints.
Kyon flips out on Haruhi – Suzumiya Haruhi S2
Remember Haruhi’s outrageous things she wants in the Sighs arc? The most shocking is Haruhi treating Mikuru as her toy. This is evident when she forces Mikuru in a waitress and also a bunny girl outfit, putting on laser shooting contacts which Nagato have to take off and inject her with something to stop it. Also, the most outrageous thing that made Haruhi as a complete, selfish b**ch that everyone wants to punch in the face is when she slips alcohol into Mikuru’s drink which makes her more agreeable and Itsuki almosts kisses her before Kyon stops him. Kyon gets into some kind of argument over Mikuru and starts hitting her (it was alot worse in the light novel when Haruhi actually smacks Mikuru hard) and calling Mikuru her toy. This causes Kyon to flip out and nearly punch the lights out of Haruhi before Itsuki restrains him… To bad Kyon didn’t get to punch Haruhi… it would teach her a lesson.
Yep, Sighs was a mediocre arc, but if it wasn’t for this scene, it wouldn’t be that great.
