In this episode, Kanna and others decide to go on a adventure to find her mother. On the way there, Kanna discovers the outside word for the first time.
This episode is probably the most light-hearted episode in the series… and we learn about more about Kanna, but yes… more Tsundere moments…
During the night, Kanna, Ryuya and Uraha went through a secret exit that Ryuya made several days ago. After running in the field, they were surrounded by pursuers and then Ryuya fights them and defeats them and runs off. Afterwards, they stop and Ryuya finds a cloth, which he uses as a diversion for the pursuers, and he threw the cloth and rock into the river to have them think that the woman drove into the water. Then, he stopped one of the running soldiers and asked questions about why they were pursuing Kannabi no Mikoto and kicks him to the ground and the solider tried to pick up the sword and try to attack him, but Ryuya kills him. After Kanna saw him kill the enemy, Kanna orders Ryuya not to kill another being.
Next day, they finally took a rest. Kanna had a headache due to the heat. In effort trying to help her headache, Ryuya poured water on her and she got upset since he didn’t say what he was going to do. Then, he pours the water on her head again and warned her, but she got upset again since didn’t pour it gently and Ryuya calls her a brat which made her more angry. Uraha while walking back thought Kanna was getting better, but Kanna throws the cup at Ryuya’s head.
Ryuya knowing that Kanna will get more exhausted by the heat in the Kimono she is currently wear, Uraha brought a summer Kimono and want Kanna to change in it, but Kanna refuses. Then, Uraha drags her and forces Kanna into wearing it. Then, they scream since the monkey took the Kimono and Ryuya throws a rock and it drops it. Soon, they thank him, but realizing that Kanna is undressing, they scream and Uraha starts hitting Ryuya’s cheek asking him to leave.
Few moments later, Kanna was dressed in her summer Kimono and Kanna asks where Uraha got the Kimono. Then, Ryuya compliments Kanna saying that it looks in it that she looks like a veritable country girl, although she is a little too cute. Then, he made a remark that she is a tiny bit bony which made Kanna irritated at Ryuya.
Soon, they continued on the journey. During a break, Kanna tried to juggle the beanbags, but ended up throwing them high in the air. Then, Uraha gives Kanna rocks to throw to train her better in juggling, but although reluctant since they will hit her if she makes a mistake, she ends up getting hit by them and passing out since she threw them high in the air. During at night, Kanna was sleeping more peacefully, Uraha asks Ryuya to sleep, but he said he is all right.
Next day, they continued their journey. Then, they arrived at a market place on the road. Then Ryuya tells Kanna not to make alot of noise since they are being pursued. Then she comes to one of the stand and asks about the round black rocks which Uraha explains them to be Ubai which is a medicine for stomachaches which brought Kanna bad memories of trying them. Then, she comes by the mochi, which she almost choked on since she at too many since they taste so good. Then, they come by the sweet rice wine which made her become too violent since she drank too much, which Kanna got irratated at since she brought up so many embarrassing incidents. Then, Ryuya reminds them again not to make too much noise, but Uraha said not to worry since the noise would be drown out. Then Kanna wondered off and almost blown her cover, but Ryuya stopped her in time and Ryuya covered her mouth and carried her away which made Kanna irratated. Then, Uraha all the sudden was missing and Kanna tried to call her, but Ryuya covers her mouth again and she bits her hand which releases her. Soon after, it was evening, but Kanna got bitten cuckoo bird by a bird after insulting it got into a fight with it. The shop keep tells her to stop since it’s his best cuckoo bird. After that, while trying to find Uraha, they heard the old mans story and Ryuya helps him by giving him a fan. Soon after helping him, they found Uraha, which brought a walnut from the shrine that came out early in the season in the bag and gives it to Kanna. While cooking dinner, Kanna tries to open the walnut but gives up. Then, they have Kanna pick up firewood. Uraha then reveals that there was a checkpoint past the market, which was picking out young girls for wings on the back. Uraha sees it suspicious since it was a strange place to place a market. Then, Ryuya cuts the walnut with the sword. Then, Uraha told about what happen after Ryuya tried to execute the plan, but Kanna was worried that Ryuya was going to die and runs to find him. Kanna finally runs with the wood, but fells and drops them.
During the night, while Ryuya as sleeping, Kanna was asking him about a favor and wants him to have a look even though she is embarrassed.
This episode was very enjoyable and funny… since there were several instances that Kanna would bring out her Tsundere personality… in several instances such as:
Ruya pouring water on Kanna
In effort to help cure Kanna from her headache, Ryuya pours water on her head which caused Kanna to become irritated.
After doing it the second time, however, she finally flips out and throws the cup at Ryuya’s head.
Kanna’s Summer Kimono
With Kanna’s refusal to change in the Summer Kimono, Uraha grabs onto Kanna and drags her and forces her into changing into her Summer Kimono. It kinda reminds me of Haruhi forcing Mikuru in a Bunny Girl outfit back in Haruhi Season one… This scene alone drives moe-levels to a dangerous level.
After Ryuya help them to retrieve the summer kimono stolen by the monkey, Uraha hits Ryuya since Ryuya might have a dirty mind with Kanna trying to change… errr…. never mind..
Kanna and the Rocks
After Kanna’s failed attempt in trying to juggle the rice bags instead of throwing them in the air, Uraha gives her rocks to train her… Although Kanna complained about being hit with them if she made a mistake, she was ignored and she threw them in the air which caused her to get hit by all three of them in the head and pass out.
Kanna’s Embarrassing Incidents
At the Marketplace, there were mentions of three embarassing incidents that happened with Kanna.
For those who don’t know what mochi is:
Mochi (Japanese: 餅) is rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into shape. Mochi is a traditional food during Japanese New Year
And also… Lastly, Kanna drinking too much sweet rice wine… alot more than Nagisa did in Clannad.
Kanna fighting with the bird
It’s never a good idea to start a fight with Kanna-sama…
Kanna’s dere Moment
Towards the end of the episode, Kanna asks Ryuya a favor since it’s embarrassing.
Also, there is another instance of her dere side when Ryuya was trying to trick the pursuers and Kanna was worried that Ryuya was going to get killed by them that she ran to go look for him.
Overall, this is probably the best episode out of the series… I suggest watching this right after watching Episode 8 in the main series.
