Oh noes!!! MOE OVERLOAD!!!!!
I have watched the first episode of K-ON! and it looks promising… More after the break.
Synopsis
Hirasawa Yui is finally in High School, but she doesn’t know what club or activities to do. She waits weeks deciding what to do. Meanwhile, Ritsu wanted Mio to join the light music club, but Mio decided she wanted to join the literary club. Ritsu ripped up Mio’s application and forced her to join. They went to the music club room, but finds out from the music teacher that the club is at risk of getting canceled because the seniors who are previously in the club has graduated. After the teacher told them, she tells them that they need to have 4 members in one month before the club gets canceled. Yui then comes in and help the teacher carry a stack of paper, but ends up dropping them.
In Ritsu’s and Mio’s quest to find more members, they recruited Kotobuki Tsumugi who was planning to join the chorus club. Then they decided to make fliers to promote the club. Few weeks later, Yui takes notice of the flier for the light music club. Then she decides to join and soon after, the light music club received the application and they were excited, but with Yui doesn’t know how to play any instruments and was reluctant to go to the club, but goes because she have the thought of getting punished. She goes into the club room and Ritsu, Mio, and Tsumugi greets her and have a tea party. Yui tells them that she doesn’t know how to play any instruments and tried to leave… With the light music club members being desperate, they play a piece inorder to convince Yui to stay and it worked. Then, Yui finally joined and going to play the guitar although she doesn’t know how to play or even own one.
Reaction
The first episode of K-ON! is done surprisingly good… compared to the first few episodes of Lucky Star… yet I feel that K-ON! does have some elements from Lucky Star, but it’s not completely random. The animation is done well, as always, but yet again like with Clannad, TBS shafted the animation quality to 4:3 again… We will find out it’s true animation quality once the 16:9 version airs next week.
Yui seems to give the vibe of a very familiar characters from other animes (hint: Fuko-chan~)
Overall, not a bad start. I rate this episode 8.5/10.
OP/ED
The OP and ED seems to sound surprisingly good… and could get stuck in your head after playing it the first time.
OP: “Cagayake! GIRLS” by Aki Toyosaki, Yoko Hisaka, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki
ED: “Don’t say ‘lazy'” by Aki Toyosaki, Yoko Hisaka, Satomi Satou and Minako Kotobuki
Verdict
8.5/10
