It seems like yesterday since I started my Anime blog back in February in 2009. Today, this blog reaches yet another important milestone of turning 5 years old. While the 5th year had some ups and downs, I still enjoy writing about Anime and even Japanese language video games. (Image Source)
Back when I started this blog, I never knew that it was going to last this long. While I created a few fansites back in the day, it never lasted beyond 1-2 years at most since I had no capacity to get real hosting back then. While I relied on free hosting for the first 2 years of blogging from 2009 and most of 2010, I was able to get a domain and hosting of my own for the first time in November 2010, although it was not without problems. Eventually, I moved to a virtual private server since they gotten cheaper. While I switched servers three times, I don’t intend to move away from the current hosting provider anytime soon (if you are wondering, I’m currently using BuyVM and they have been reliable thus far).
The main reason I started blogging about Anime is not just to improve my writing skills, but also share my renewed passion from Anime. During my last year of high school, I lost interest in watching the Pokémon Anime, but I didn’t realize that there are other shows that I would also enjoy. After watching the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, Kanon and Clannad, everything was history. While I didn’t watch many shows in 2009, my tastes started to expand in 2010 as I started to watch other airing shows. During that time, I got to meet other anime bloggers and even made a few friends a long the way.
So, what will the future hold for this blog? I still think that there are plenty of shows and topics regarding the fandom/themes in Anime that I haven’t touched upon yet. Not only that, my Japanese-self study has allowed me to talk about Japanese video games, thus diversifying my content on my blog. Even so, with another semester remaining until I finish my graduate degree, I wonder how I will fit my blogging while holding a full-time job moving forward. I will decide when the time comes.
With that, I would like to thank all of my subscribers, followers and visitors who read and enjoy my posts old and new and comment on them. I hope you will continue to support me into the future.
For those who are new and want to learn more about me, feel free to read my ABC Awards post.
応援してくれてありがとうございました。(Thank you for supporting me.)
Overall Statistics for the 5th year: 1361 posts, 3288 comments, 69 completed series.
Congrats on 5 years! That’s definitely a big milestone =D
Good luck with your studies too. I’m pretty sure that as long as you have the interest, you’ll be able to find time for anime blogging even when you eventually get full time employment (even if you have to reduce the number of regular posts).
Thanks. I think it’s becoming a feat to reach the 5 year mark considering that there is a lot of blogs that die out well before they reach that far. I definitely saw a good number of old blogs that are on my blog roll become inactive and of course it’s kind of depressing if one thinks about it. But still, I’m pretty curious of what is the state of the blogosphere currently.
But aside from that, I still have a good amount of stuff I want to talk about although I have written a good chunk of those topics already. Then again, the fandom might be different in a few years, so it’s worth taking a look at it again someday.
Congratulations on your anniversary!
Yes, BuyVM is a good host for VPS, used them for other services in the past. *nods*
Thanks.
Well of course, I have been on the fence of switching over since that host since it got very good reviews on Lowendbox. When my former VPS host started having a lot of downtime a few weeks before the term is up, I took the plunge and it was only a few dollars more than what I paid in the past… So basically, it costs about 60 dollars a year for hosting and so far it has been stable (except the few days when the HTTP server got overloaded).
Well done big man. Your service to the anime community continues being noticed. I’ll keep on dropping by and supporting ya as best as I can. In fact…I may have something planned for ya.
Congrats, 5 years is definitely a long time. And good luck managing your time when you enter the workforce, I’m sure you will be able to do it^^
Thank you for everyone who congratulating me and I hope the sixth year will be a good one.
