For those who celebrate, I hope everyone a Happy Valentines Day/Singles Appreciation Day. To commemorate this faithful day, I want to focus this week’s opinion piece on my favorite idols from The Idolmaster. I know people will have different opinions since they are many to choose from and I will respect that. (Image Source)
#1 Chihaya Kisaragi (如月千早)
Age: 16
Three Sizes: B72 W55 H78
Although she is very self-conscious about her chest size since it’s the smallest out of everyone else’s, I really liked her character. She has an amazing singing voice as shown in most of her songs such as “Blue Bird,” “Sleeping Princess,” and “Promise.” This gets backed up by her highest total image stats in the game, 71. Even so, I like her personality because she is cool and collected while having a strange sense of humor. At the same time, it’s very difficult to manage her expectations if you don’t understand her. Although this is less of a problem in the second game, producing her in the first game can become challenging. If you do or say anything wrong, her tension levels will quickly drop to very low levels and stay there for some time. Despite this fact, her arc in the Anime had made me appreciate her a lot more.
#2 Azusa Miura (三浦あずさ)
Age: 21
Three Sizes: B91 W59 H86
Needless to say, I like big sister characters since they are mature and tend to have a sweet personality. While Azusa cuts her hair to a short bob in the second game, she is no exception. Her personality is what makes her amazing. Besides looking for the destined one and her older sister persona, she has a poor sense a direction. With Episode 8, this makes it one heck of an adventure with her bringing the engagement ring back to its rightful owner. For this reason, I like her singing voice since it sounds sweet and she holds two of the slowest favorite songs out of the other characters, both of them about her destined. Not only that, she is also the oldest and bustiest (Takane is the second biggest) idol out of the whole group.
#3 Takane Shijou (四条貴音)
Age: 18
Three Sizes: B90 W62 H92
While not much is known about Takane, I admit that she looks like a princess judging from her lovely appearance. Then again, it’s probably her long silver hair, which makes everyone think that she came from the moon. Even so, she is my favorite because of her extremely polite speech (using 私 and not using a hint of casual speech), the ability to eat a big bowl of ramen and sense of humor. Just like Chihaya, Takane also has a great voice even though she can’t compare to the amount of songs recorded from the former.
Honorable Mention – Yukiho Hagiwara (萩原雪歩)
Age: 17
Three Sizes: B81 W56 H81
Some people may find Yukiho rather irritating because she is a “shrinking violet” and fears for men/dogs 1, you still have to admit that she is endearing. Despite the voice change in Idolmaster 2 that irritated me sometimes, she surprisingly has a great singing voice underneath it all. Because of this fact, I tend to have her take the center for most of my productions without actually being the leader. Also, some her reactions are rather funny even though I feel bad at the same time.
This eventually wraps up my favorite fictional idols. If you have played with the game and/or watched the Anime, I’m quite curious on what is your favorites and why. I know everyone has different preferences, especially when there are 12 to choose from (15 if you include the ones from Dearly Stars).
Some Notes
- She doesn’t actually punch them, but tries to dig a hole in fear ↩
Mizutani Eri
She’s my favorite since she’s the one I most relate to. I don’t want to identify specific details or examples but we share similar personalities and hobbies. As such when I’m playing Dearly Stars I get really into her character and I feel as if I’m actually experiencing what’s she’s going through. I always end up getting Perfect Communications because of that but at the same time I feel devastated whenever I mess up.
Too embarrassing.
I know how it feels since we can actually relate to these characters. Still, I have never played Dearly Stars since my Japanese skills is still lacking even though I have worked on it for nearly four months and that I don’t own the actual game (although I’m getting the SP games if my order goes through). In order to get through the communications and story parts in Idolmaster 2, I had to rely on a guide, which kind of takes some of the fun out of the whole thing. Someday when my Japanese is good enough, I’ll play a run without a guide…
Also, yeah I saw that since I came across the post several months ago. It kind of suck not getting a perfect communication, especially since you actually understand what is going on. But yeah, good luck on finishing it and hope for a good/true ending.
For me it is Yukiho. She has always been my favorite ever since I first heard her singing Kosmos Cosmos which was sung by her old VA. And even to this stay she is still my #1 idol. Because I think she has the third most interesting story behind Takane and Chihaya. She also shows the most character growth out of all the idols at the end of the game. I really enjoyed my playthrough with Yukiho as leader in im@s 2 since it was especially nice to see how much she grows as a character at the end of the game.
I also really have a thing for shy girls as well which is another reason why I love Yukiho. XD
I don’t understand why people have such an issue with the sound of her voice though. To be honest it really kind of annoys me when people complain about the sound of her voice because I personally never really had any issues with the way her voice sounds in im@s 2. In fact I think that Azumin sounds really great in quite a few songs including I want and Overmaster and she especially did a great job with Little Match Girl.
To me she has always been the same Yukiho to me whether her VA is Yurishii or Azumin. At least that is how I look at it.
Well, I became a recent fan of iM@S since the Anime started, so I haven’t experienced much of the first game, although I should be receiving a copy of iDOLM@STER SP Wandering Star in the mail anytime soon (although I failed to get Missing Moon, but will get it at some point). Still, I don’t mind too much of Yukiho’s voice actors, although I got used to Yurishii’s Kosmos Cosmos and the one in iM@S 2 sounds odd after hearing it so much. Nevertheless, I find Yukiho really adorable although some people complain about her, mostly because of her personality… but I do prefer it over other Anime characters, especially over Inami who keeps punching men.
But yes, I will get to her story one of these days, but I won’t be able to understand much of it since my Japanese skills aren’t there yet.
