This is the battle between Milky Holmes vs. Aresené that everyone waited for. It’s going to be epic.
The battle is basically this… The other Milky Holmes girls beat the rest of the thieves while Aresené confronts Sheryl. Soon after, the girls came to combine their powers to attack Aresené, but misses. After a few misses from Milky Holmes, the rock platform goes up into space. From there, Aresené produces illusionary copies of herself and Milky Holmes tries to defeat them. Then, Nero builds a robotic arm at propels Sheryl and Elly-san, which allows Sheryl to attack Aresené while she is building up her power represented in a sun-like sphere… Unfortunately, the battle was interrupted when Aresené’s big breasts distracted the girls. This is when the meteor hit the platform, which sends everyone back to Earth like a shooting star. Aresene escapes and Milky Holmes get recognition from the Genius 4… or is it?
Well, there is some stupidity since someone put a rock in the celebration ball, thus Milky Holmes losing the toys for the second time. However, they are given an extension to try again, got their room repaired and will not be immediately expelled.
Lastly, I laughed at the segment that happened after the ending theme with a young girl named Mori Arty that talks in a weird voice Working!! Style. She transfers to the Holmes Detective Academy and is a big fan of Milky Holmes. After she tells everyone her name, everyone else got a moe nosebleed… maybe not, but she is cute.
As for this episode, this is probably the most epic ending I have seen from all the Fall 2010 Anime I watched. Sure their powers came back temporarily, but the girls were badass while they were battling Aresené. Eventually, they battled in space, which led to more chaotic techniques to attack Aresené. Besides the Magical Girl element and Mori, there are some “boyoyoon”, some yuri and of course, Twenty, which made the episode really entertaining.
Final Thoughts
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes was surprisingly good. The first few episodes were a mixed bag, but things got really humorous and better as the series gone on. Sure the Milky Holmes girls act so immature that it makes the girls of K-ON look so normal, but majority of the humor came from Sheryl, Cordelia, Aresene, Kokoro-chan and Twenty especially since he can’t keep his clothes on.
On the other hand, there were some flaws in this show, which has to do with the animation and music. While the art style looks so cute, there is not much detail in the scenery. Heck, K-ON’s scenery looks better than that. Also, the scenery used in the “Peach Boy” parody looks so familiar to Kaichou wa Maid-sama. The music was somewhat good with the opening and ending them, but everything else was mediocre.
Overall, Milky Holmes was the most enjoyable show and therefore the #1 (comedies) in the Fall 2010 season. Sure JC Staff tends to screw up a show depending on the plot (Ookami-san), but this isn’t one of them. The art style may turn off some people, but it’s worth a watch to see girls do really hilarious stuff and see Twenty hugging himself on a pillow.
Overall Rating
9.0/10, A-
It was a pretty great season for anime comedies, all things considered. I mean in addition to Milky Holmes, we had Soredemo, Ika Musume, Panty and Stocking, and even Arakawa.. and that’s just the ones I watched. I can’t decide which was the best.. none of them out-laughed the other for me, they all had their moments of different comedy styles.
