Papa Kiki, Clannad and Family – A Worthwhile Commitment

April 16, 2012 by Chikorita157 6 Comments

After watching 8 episodes of Papa no Iukoto o Kikinasai, there was something that really got me thinking. Although many dissed the show as something perverted, the drama in the 8 episodes I watched proved that raising a family is a difficult task and reminding me of Clannad, which had similar themes. Despite the difficulties the fathers faced in both shows, they continued because its worthwhile experience. (Image Source)

Monthly Anime Music Ramblings – April 2012 – The iDOLM@STER

March 28, 2012 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

It has been a while since I wrote guest reviews of related singles and soundtracks relating to Anime. Since I want to come up with another single review within a few months, I suppose I should share my thoughts on some good music I heard from the shows I watched. With that, I come up with the “Monthly Anime Music Ramblings,” an idea I had in my mind two nights ago.

In this feature, I will pick one to three track(s) from a particular series or artist. Then, I will explain what I like about the song along with other aspects like instrumentals and singer’s performance. This will replace the yearly list of favorite artists along with the best songs from a particular season.

In this inaugural post, I will talk about three tracks from The Idolmaster that really impressed me. (Image Source)

Journey of Self-Studying Japanese – Casual (Short) Forms

February 4, 2012 by Chikorita157 2 Comments

Despite finishing the grammar in the first book, I have to admit that I fell behind because I played too much Idolmaster 2 instead of studying Japanese. Since the spring semester started about three weeks ago, I’m playing catch up and hopefully I can cover lost ground. Either way, this self-study progress will only focus on the short/casual forms.

Journey of Self-Studying Japanese – Tackling Verb and Adjective Conjugations

December 4, 2011 by Chikorita157 3 Comments

From last time, I shared my first hand experiences of self-studying the Japanese Language last month. Another month passed by and I have learned quite a lot, most namely one of the intimidating aspects of the language, verb and adjective conjugations.

Iyashikei, The Art of Friendship, Escapism and Healing

November 9, 2011 by Chikorita157 6 Comments

In recent years, shows involving schoolgirls doing cute things have become considerably popular, especially in the second half of the 2000s. Although some people argue that these works don’t have any substance, for others, it gives a feeling of happiness and refreshment. Shows like K-ON, Hidamari Sketch, Sketchbook, Tamayura, and A Channel along with the acclaimed Aria series and Ikoku Meiro no Croisèe, which don’t set at a school setting. So, what are in these shows that give this present feeling?

Iyashikei (癒(いゆ)し系(けい)), which means “healing series” in Japanese is what it says on the box. It’s a genre that focuses on the lighthearted aspects of life with little to no conflict. If you look further, there are several qualities in this genre, which contributes to feeling such as the emphasis on friendship, the setting and an easy-going feeling. (Image Source)

March 10, 2011 by Chikorita157 3 Comments

Most of you should know that Kyoko is no longer with us after she faceed a battle with Sayaka who became a witch. Kyoko is one of my favorite characters in Madoka Magica since she is strong willed and kind in the inside. Therefore, I want to give a tribute to Kyoko for being kind and strong person who genuinely cares about Sayaka. (Image Source)

For Fun: Everybody Hates Kyubey™

February 24, 2011 by Chikorita157 14 Comments

Oh Kyubey, you look so cute with the never changing cat smile. After Mami’s death, a lot of people including myself started to question Kyubey’s motives. Some people took it a step further and think that Kyubey is the devil, thus creating intensive hate. While I don’t agree with his views on morality, I want to explore some of the possible reasons why Everybody Hates Kyubey™ thus far. (Image Source)

Twelve Moments in Anime 2010 – #8 – Angel Beats, the TsunTsun Anime

December 17, 2010 by Chikorita157 7 Comments

Angel Beats was a rather unique show even though the execution was so tsundere that it was not even funny. The show was pretty interesting with girls with guns, fighting against other people and learning about the heroes’/heroines’ tragic memories.  Therefore, this makes it the 8th Anime Moment in our countdown to Christmas.
