What is this blog about?
This blog focus on sharing my thoughts and impressions of primarily schoolgirl slice of life and yuri anime and manga. I also review other types of Japanese media, such as video games and manga. In addition, I also write editorials focusing on topics related to anime, the fandom, the anime industry, etc.
I started this blog when I started my first year of college in 2009. After all, I had plenty of free time after going to classes and doing homework. Sure, my writing wasn’t that great when I started. Also, Suzumiya Haruhi, Lucky Star, Kanon and Clannad are the shows that regained my interest in anime.
However, this blog serves to share my impressions on anime and interact with those in the community. I also participated in an anime forum, AnimeSuki Forums. However, I don’t do that nowadays since its decline in activity since the mid-2010s.
I manage the server that hosts this blog and other personal projects. If you want to learn what I use to create content, you can read the behind-the-scenes.

About Myself
My name is James, also known as chikorita157, the username I have used since the early 2000s. The first anime titles I watched were My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura.
During the 2000s, I didn’t watch that much anime besides Pokémon. I spent most of my childhood on the internet, participating primarily in Pokémon forums and making fan sites. However, in the early 2000s, I discovered Japanese music, mostly ones from Pokémon. This foundation allowed me to become the anime fan I am today. Moreover, I started to learn Japanese starting in late 2011 since I wanted to learn Japanese. You can read more about my Japanese self-study experiences here.
Currently, I work as a System Administrator for the Federal Government in Washington DC. I have a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and a master’s degree in Information Technology Security and Administration. I also hold certifications from CompTIA, such as Security+ and CySA.
Mastodon Instance
If you notice the “Get a Mastodon Account” buttons, I run a Mastodon instance called Sakurajima, aimed at the Anime Blogosphere and other Anime critics who review Japanese media or Japan released in video or in podcast.You can find some anime bloggers on that instance or in the “fediverse” from different instances.
I decided to set one up as Twitter has become a huge dumpster fire and I needed to leave for the sake of my mental health. Life is too short in having to deal with Twitter drama. I hope to see it’s demise so everyone can move to something better. Or maybe get back to reading and commenting on anime blogs, which I hope more people will do. 😉
