Egao no Taenai Shokuba desu. – Episode 2 – How an Oshi become Nana’s Assistant

October 13, 2025 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Nana wonders why Mizuki posted a 4 panel comic on social media.

After Nana submitted her manuscripts and attended a surprise meeting with Kaede, she felt a bit fatigued. Of course, we find out more about how Mizuki became Nana’s assistant.

While Nana looks at a social media post featuring a four-panel comic. With that, Mizuki came in to help Nana again, but, of course, Nana asked why Mizuki was there. We learn that the four-panel comic Nana is looking at is the one Mizuki shared. She wonders why Mizuki won’t serialize her works, despite their popularity.

Of course, she seems okay being an assistant, although she receives offers. That is why Mizuki tries to change the subject and reminds Nana of the work she still has to do. That is why Nana shows signs of fatigue, with her shoulders stiff. Apparently, she is working on the cover for the first volume and taking a break from the manuscripts.

Obviously, Nana is happy about her serialization, but she has a lot of work to do. Funny how she thinks it might be her fault for Mizuki not wanting to debut as a mangaka, given all the work. Surprisingly, that is not the case; instead, Mizuki believes she doesn’t have what it takes to become one. In a flashback, she spoke with an editor about possibly doing one, but she eventually backed out before she even started. Mizuki initially wanted to do it to earn the title of mangaka. However, she soon realizes she has to come up with a plot for her series and the amount of work behind it. She basically has a failure-to-launch.

Mizuki had cold feet realizing there is more to serializing than just drawing.
She started crying after realizing she failed to launch.

Of course, this perplexes Nana, who wonders why Mizuki shared a 4koma. Of course, she just wants a short burst of ideas instead of a plot, as she doesn’t know how to put it all together. Also, it appears she only wants to do it for enjoyment, not for fame.

Nana of course ask about Mizuki’s failed launch into becoming a mangaka.

At night, before they went to bed, they slept. Of course, Nana couldn’t stop thinking about Mizuki, who had just given up early, and wondered if she would stay an assistant forever. Of course, she is not sure whether she will remain one forever, though she thinks it’s the right decision and is happy to help Nana. Funny how Nana interpreted it as Mizuki helping others out instead.

Instead of sleep, Nana decides to continue to work.
While Nana got the cover done, she wants more time to finish the manuscripts.

While Mizuki went to sleep, Nana couldn’t as she continued her work. Eventually, Mizuki saw that Nana’s futon was empty, and apparently, she was at her desk. At least Nana appeared to finish the cover for the first volume, but Kaede wants the 5th chapter done soon. Eventually, the fatigue took its toll on Nana as Mizuki found her struggling with a headache and neck pain, but she pushed herself.

Mizuki checks on Nana when she is not at her desk.
Nana is not feeling well.
Nana is obviously exhausted.

Mizuki, of course, wants Nana to get better. At least she did things to make Nana feel better. Sure, Nana wants Mizuki’s sister to help fix her neck pain, but Mizuki says that she is busy. She did it instead, and Nana feels better.

Yes, there is a flashback with Mizuki’s older sister asking Nana to draw her something for her little sister.

What is interesting is that we saw a flashback with Nana with Mizuki’s older sister. Apparently, Nana is working on a poster for the culture festival. She realizes how talented Nana is as she asks her a favor. She wants Nana to draw her little sister, Mizuki, and Ijuin, since she is a big fan of manga called Dullahan Man. Yep, this happened because Mizuki saw her older sister holding a drawing Nana made for her. While Nana is super embarrassed, Mizuki’s older sister admits that her little sister respects Nana. Nana eventually agrees to do it for a massage.

Nana woke up with Mizuki right next to her.
Kaede is happy that Nana managed to finish her manuscripts and more and wondered if something happened.
It’s quite obvious who gave Nana the push she needs.

When she woke up, Mizuki was right next to her, apparently having dozed off. Nana, of course, feels better thanks to Mizuki. Yep, Mizuki knew Nana had woken up to continue working. At least Nana mentioned remembering the time when Mizuki’s older sister asked for a drawing of a character for her little sister. Thanks to Mizuki, at least Nana manages to finish the 5th chapter and the storyboard for the bonus chapter. Kaede seems happy that Nana pulled it off and wonders if something happened to Nana. Well, it’s all thanks to her assistant.

At least Nana managed to give Mizuki an offer she can’t refuse.

Yep, Mizuki still remembered. Believe it or not, this is why she became Nana’s assistant when she gave up on serializing her work, as she called it. Given that Mizuki looks up to Nana, she is willing to help her out as an assistant. I guess we have another pairing besides Nana and Kaede, of course.
