It has been a while, but Shiho cannot convey her feelings after Himari asks about Kyou’s death and Shiho’s time with SSGirls before she quit. Shiho wants to beat SSGirls to cut ties with Aki forever. However, Himari wants Aki Shiho and Aki to make up no matter what.
As for the first half, we see Himari finally hug Miki. After all, it’s been a while since Himari spent most of her time being the manager for Laureley. Of course, worried about Shiho, she wants to apologize to her. Eventually, she got to apologize to her when Shiho didn’t need it and admitted that she was being mean to Aki. The only thing she regrets is not ripping off the bandage sooner
However, since she had already leaked everything about her past with Aki, the whole competition was pointless. That said, she wants to put an end to this, which, of course, means being done with Aki for good. She believes things will never go back to the way things were before. As expected, Himari doesn’t want that, as Shiho wants Himari to tell Aki that she is cutting ties with her after the festival.
As expected, Himari feels conflicted when she meets Momoka with Hajime as she thinks what she did to have Shiho make up with Aki backfires on her. She is unsure what she is doing, as Momoka tells her not to look at her that way since Shiho has a lot of baggage, as does Momoka and Hajime. Hajime still thinks it a good idea for Hajime to break down Shiho’s wall and that she likes Himari more than she realizes.
Himari, of course, shares her desire to apologize to Aki and Yori. Himari stopped by the practice room SSGirls are using. Aki discovers from Himari that Shiho wants to cut all ties after the festival. Himari apologizes, although Aki says it’s okay; otherwise, she would have stopped talking to Shiho long ago.
As expected, it’s festival time, and it’s nice to see Himari spend time with Yori. That is until Himari has to help out with the club she is in. She did get to take Miki to the cosplay café, and yep, Himari saw Aki in a China dress and Yori dressed as a butler. Yep, it’s not too surprising to see Hajime’s reaction.
Of course, Aki talks to Shiho as Himari tells her she is coming. Hajime said it was not her, and Aki insisted on it, even if Shiho wanted to cut ties with Aki. Aki ends up telling her that she heard what Shiho said. When Aki asks why Shiho hates her this much, she can’t come up with a reason for liking or hating her. Shiho just doesn’t want to be with her.
While Shiho accuses Aki, saying Aki has to confront her as she can’t beat her on stage, Aki eventually admits that she wants to know why Shiho quit, but that is not why. Aki enjoyed playing music with Shiho and realized she wanted to make up with her. As expected, Shiho acts arrogant, saying Aki’s crush gets a girlfriend and bragging about it. Shiho thinks she won’t do anything like this as Aki gets upset at Shiho’s obsession with her love life. That is while Shiho says hanging out with someone who broke her heart isn’t an option for her. Aki acts obliviously towards her as Shiho reveals why she left, which is because she couldn’t convey her feelings. Yep, Shiho finally admits that she loves Aki as she makes it clear to her, and she is not dragging it out anymore. Before Aki can say something, she walks off as she finally realizes it might be the case before realizing she messed up.
After seeing Laureley’s performance, Aki talks about what Shiho said about loving Aki. With that, she is relieved that Shiho doesn’t hate her but wants to spend time with her. Aki realizes that her feelings for Yori might have hurt Shiho’s feelings at the same time. The next day, Yori and her bandmates notice that Aki is out of it. With that, Aki wants to change the lineup to help make up with Shiho.
As for the performance, the last song is for Shiho, as Aki says a monologue directed at Shiho. Thankfully, Himari came to where Shiho was on the roof to drag her to see the performance. Shiho seems resistant, saying it’s all over between her and Aki, but Himari isn’t giving up since the look on Shiho’s face makes it not so convincing that she wants to give up on Aki.
I think it’s good that Himari took Shiho to see the performance. As expected, Aki said a monologue directed at Shiho. Of course, Aki is unsure what the correct answer to give is, but she wants Shiho to indulge her again. That is while sharing the times Aki enjoyed playing music together and spending time with Shiho. She realizes that she cares about Shiho, but her relationship has been at a standstill. Aki wants to be with Shiho after admitting to it. Yep, she performed a song that was nostalgic for her.
As expected, Laureley wins the competition, given that Aki haphazardly changed the lineup without time to prepare. It has the effect Aki wanted all along in making up with Shiho. Shiho asks Aki if she wants to be with her, and Aki runs to her and hugs her. Yep, we see a lovely kiss with Shiho, and Aki is happy as she can talk with Shiho again, but she can’t be friends with Shiho again.
I find it cute how Shiho kisses Aki and says she does not intend to return to being friends. Yep, they are finally in a relationship. It only took Himari to push for Aki and Shiho to makeup, and Shiho finally confronted her feelings for Aki instead of keeping them in and cutting ties with her forever. Also, the kiss with Himari and Yori on the rooftop is nice.
Final Thoughts
Sasayaku You ni Koi o Utau is a troubled production with questionable animation quality, which doesn’t get good marks. If you ignore the production problems, seeing Himari’s and Yori’s relationship develop was interesting. Sure, Himari only loved Yori for her music rather than romantically as she hadn’t figured it out, although some things like Aki’s feelings for her and the time factor give a sense of urgency. Otherwise, there is not as much drama here, but there are primarily fluffy moments between Himari and Yori, especially the dates.
However, Shiho is perhaps the more interesting part of the story as she has a rather dark past. Also, she fell out with Aki through misunderstandings and her inability to confront her feelings. Like with Shiho giving up on violin because Kyou outshined her, in a way, she is doing the same, thinking she has no hope of winning Aki’s heart since Shiho assumed that she doesn’t stand a chance.
As a result, Shiho has a big falling out that leads her to leave SSGirls. It’s nice to see Himari is the one who helps bring Shiho and Aki back together, although it’s a bumpy road for sure. Still, it’s nice to see them together.
That said, the elephant is in the room, so we probably won’t see another season. That is unless there is some kind of miracle. The studio that worked on this show, Cloud Hearts, is a complete disaster. I wonder what went down that caused the production to break down.
Sadly, there is news that the production company that worked on the stage play version is going bankrupt. As a result, I feel bad for the author who worked on the source material. Production issues aside, it’s worth a watch if you are into Yuri, as it has interesting developments, especially with Shiho and Aki and, of course, the music. The main pairing is lovely, with many sweet moments as usual.
