Finally, we get Mashiro’s and Chrome’s origin story in their fight to become evil masterminds. This is where things get interesting regarding Mashiro becoming a talking cat.
As you recall, a few episodes back, Chrome gained the idea of becoming an evil mastermind after his interaction with his rival, Mashiro/Mashima. Yes, we know that kid is Mashiro, given his eyes and hair similar to the cat from last time. The leader of Fossa Magna sanctioned him, making Mashiro into a cute talking cat. Of course, there is more to the story.
We see a glimpse of Chrome and Mashiro during high school. Chrome got good grades in Japanese and English, but Mashiro doesn’t like this. Yep, he views him as a rival. They eventually interview at the same venture firm, Ohmizo Technica. Of course, Chrome can summon Kuma Kaijin to save the resting salaryman. The funny thing is that he was sleeping on his briefcase as he floated away on the river with a sleeping blindfold on.
Believe it or not, this was the interviewer for Ohmizo Technica and the CEO. He thanks Chrome and Mashiro for saving him and asks why he wants to work here. He admits that he wants to become a criminal mastermind along with Mashiro. The CEO eventually hired both in regular jobs. Of course, Chrome impresses the workers by saving the president from a rampaging Elephant with a bear while Mashiro pushes him out of the elephant’s path. Of course, Chrome gets the credit.
One day, they found a trap door that led them to a separate department. The CEO reveals the individual department is the evil organization, Fossa Magna. He eventually gives them mysterious power cards, which they can activate by putting them near their forehead. However, they need to duke it out to become the chief mastermind of Fossa Manga, which there can only be one. This involves finding a hidden flag on the beach.
While Chrome looks for the flag, Mashiro finds it using that ability card, but of course, Chrome comes to save the giant flag from falling on Mashiro. The CEO gives Chrome the Chief Mastermind role. Of course, Chrome gave it to Mashiro since he found it first, even if he didn’t have to. Of course, Mashiro let his anger of Chrome sacrificing the role by having his card cut that he uncontrollably attacks Chrome, which led to him being knocked out.
In the end, Mashiro gets sanctioned and turned into a cute cat. The card penalized Mashiro for attacking someone without magic. Before the CEO could grab him, he ran away.
With that, we see how Chrome became the mastermind, although incompetent. As expected, Mashiro still has the card, which is how he made Kaju into a magical girl. Still, it’s funny how he gets bullied by many cats for being in their territory, although he saved a cat. However, Kaju had to save him from being washed away to sea. This is how he got that string, which eventually hung his recording bell. That said, I’m pretty amazed by how much lore there is between Chrome becoming the mastermind. That is when Mashiro, a “cute” cat mascot, attacks Chrome while powerless. Still, what is the CEO’s motive for running an evil organization? I guess we’ll find out eventually.
