Now it’s time for Hareru’s first live, which makes you wonder what surprise she has cooked up with Awayuki involved.
At last, Hareru finished their rehearsal as Nekoma, Shion, and Sei came on stage. Of course, they mentioned that their experiences eventually started. Thankfully, Hareru reassured Shion that people like her who she is. At least Shion feels relieved, but the funny thing is that Sei doesn’t seem worried, although Nekoma and Shion look worried as she does something spicy. When they start asking what motivated Hareru to do a concert, she says it’s a secret, which she will eventually reveal soon enough.
After the rehearsal, Awayuki and Hareru had dinner together. They had a drink with some barbeque. Of course, they are excited as this meal is a treat for Awauki. Of course, she struggled with the song.
Interestingly, Hareru wants to be like Awayuki until she reveals her true colors. Yes, the way Awayuki used to be before that stream, but Awayuki said it past stream as she realized she must be who she is. Sure, Hareru asks Awayuki if she wants to try to be anyone else, but Awayuki seems satisfied with how things are going so far that she doesn’t want to change.
Now that Awayuki’s stomach is full, she heads back to the venue as she seems nervous, and Hareru can tell. She calmed her down. The funny thing is that Awayuki was very anxious when it was time for her to come on stage. It’s weird how she showed a lot of nervousness until her manager told her that her fellow 3rd generation members, Hikari, Mashiro, and Chami, encouraged her.
The funny thing is that when Hareru picks up a drink, Awayuki looks like she opens a can of Strong Zero and seems excited to drink it.
After Hareru performed on stage, she finally revealed something. That is after she tries singing a surprise song. We learn that Hareru had a hard time making friends due to her high intelligence.
Yes, she announced that she wants to go more behind the scenes. She hides her identity by wearing a mask to make friends, which she does, although her life is boring. However, four other girls who are her friends got to see her side of her and eventually worked on creating Live-On. The girl underneath the mask is Hareru, who has to return to who she was, and her friends accept who she was. Hareru, of course, views herself more as a staff than a VTuber and feels that her younger members have grown enough that she is fine without her.
Awayuki feels shocked that Hareru is retiring. While Hareru doesn’t like being front and center, she changed her mind after Awayuki made her accidental stream go viral. In a way, she wants to do more, even collaborations. Yep, she wants to remain a VTuber and, of course, be with them as the person she is. These reasons explain why she picked Awayuki as a strong influence over her. After all, Awayuki eventually embraced her true self. Awayuki thought she lived in two different worlds, but Hareru was like her, so Hareru wanted to stand on the same stage as Awayuki.
That said, the performance is quite fitting and lovely. A day after the performance, Awayuki cleaned her apartment while, in the past stream, Awayuki and Hareru talked about Hareru’s first life. Yep, Hareru appears to be going to do more, and it’s funny to see her talk dirty for a moment. It was also touching to see short clips of actual influential OG VTubers that exist, which is a nice touch to a nice ending. Sure, Hareru baited us with a semi-retirement, but it appears she wants to turn a new page in her VTuber career by doing more.
Final Thoughts
While I’m not into VTubers, VTuber nanda ga Haishin Kiri Wasuretara Densetsu ni Natteta was an entertaining and enjoyable show. It’s pretty amazing how this show manages to make the streams look like actual VTuber streams with them using Live2D models. For some games, they play the actual thing instead, which is quite interesting.
Of course, I enjoyed the silly and unhinged moments from the whole cast. The characters or VTubers themselves are enjoyable, with some lovely yuri moments. Awayuki has a harem, although Mashiro and Hareru have the upper hand. That said, I won’t mind another season since it’s a fun show.
My favorite anime of the season. I admittedly do not watch VTuber streams as much as I used to, preferring to watch clips here and there but this show delivered exactly what I hoped it would. It showed newcomers and veterans what makes them so appealing. The silliness, wackiness, heart and most importantly unadulterated lesbianism made it all a glorious viewing experience of Summer 2024.
