When Kano finally got her biking license so Mahiru could ride with her, she found her reason to sing. She wants to do a live performance for Halloween, the day JELEE went official.
As Mahiru and Mei enjoy the air conditioning, Kano suggests putting on a live gig to commemorate the 1st anniversary of JELEE going official as a group. Since the group doesn’t intend to reveal their identity, they do it masked while wearing costumes. Is Kano taking that idea from Ave Mujica? In a way, Kano wants to get to them directly. With that comes the planning of the venue and stage design.
Eventually, to pull this off, the girls decide to stay over and talk this through. While Kiui seems reluctant to do this as she doesn’t like going out, Kano suggests getting an app so Kiui can participate remotely. Of course, Kiui ended up going anyway.
One of the cute and funniest moments is when Kano calls Mahiru. Of course, Mahiru was brushing her teeth, and Kano struggled with what Mahiru was trying to say. Mahiru was surprised that Kano had just called her out of the blue to talk, as Kano said she wanted to hear Mahiru’s voice. That is, while Mahiru wondered if Kano was embarrassed to say things like this or if Kano was taking advantage of her. When Kano said Mahiru was Japanese and incapable of saying no, I laughed. That is the funniest and most ridiculous thing for her to say.
The next day, Mei revealed the place they would stay at, which was spacious and had good internet. Yep, it was at a “love hotel.” Of course, she did as Mei must give her Oshi the best. When they arrive, Kano has to reveal that the hotel she picked is a place for couples to, you know. Kano is just excited about it as she has never been to one. Funny how Kano, in that instance, calls Mahiru with her actual name.
They saw a couple walking in the hallway when they entered the room. When they enter the room, it’s everything Kano wants as it’s themed on the ocean. The Wifi speeds are good, too. Funny how Kano tries on various costumes to potentially wear during the live, basically cosplay. Mei ate that up so well. That is until Kano suggests updated versions of the jellyfish from Mahiru’s painting.
After working through the details of what venue to pick, how the performance will go, and so on, they finally announce the live performance. That is while they work on the set design, music, and other things. Eventually, it’s the last day as they are in the foot bath, and it’s raining. After Kano walks out in the rain, they notice the blue umbrellas people carry below. This gives Kano an idea for Mahiru to consider the audience to bring blue umbrellas in addition to glow sticks.
Eventually, things seemed to go well, although they had to choose a cheaper venue. However, it’s a bigger venue than where the Sundolls performed. It looks like things are going so well until the Antis strike. Yep, you thought Chika and Yumiko weren’t the only ones to deal with them by spreading negative rumors. That violent moment with Kano as Nonoko is brought up. I guess JELEE is standing in for Miiko without realizing Kano’s past would get brought up. The venue wanted to cancel the event because of threats and doxing, but the girls weren’t going to give up. They will do it without an audience and use the power of screens and the internet, as Kiui suggests, to make it happen.
In the end, while the haters invade the stream and social media, it’s nice how they eventually get drowned out. Not only that, Fanart from fans gets projected on the wall and ground. The chandler from the hotel room inspired Kiui to suggest such a thing. Either way, it went better than expected, as they received a lot of likes for their live performance and new followers.
After the girls lay on the floor exhausted, they wonder if they pulled It off. Mahiru showed how it turned out and motivated Kano to do another song for New Year’s. While Mahiru is resting, she receives a text for a commission. Wait, it’s from Kano’s mother. Wait, did Kano’s mother realize that her long-abandoned daughter, part of Sundolls, is working on another project? I guess this is where things are about to get interesting.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night Episode 8: Looming Jellyween – The Yuri Empire
Mei was the MVP of the episode. So good!
Kano has it real bad for Mahiru and she was not ready for Kano already having a counter to her teasing. We love to see it.
Definitely a “dun-dun-duuuun” worthy cliffhanger.
Agreed, and picked the perfect hotel, but funny it was a love hotel.
Yes, Kano’s mother… must be bad news for obvious reasons.
