Remember the time when Kano hijacked an underground idol street performance? She finally asks JELEE for help. Thus, we learn more about her. It’s very similar to a particular famous idol who had two children.
Kano seems stuck writing song lyrics when Kiui suggests a DM they received on their social account. It was from an underground idol, Miko. She is requesting a commission song from JELEE. After seeing that video of Kano hijacking Miko’s stream performance while Yoru tears down her posters, you can see why her idol is in dire straights. So, in a way, they kind of owe Miiko, of course.
At the café bar, Yoru and her friends meet Miiko as she introduces herself. They are meeting with Miiko, who has been doing the idol thing since she turned 18. She is upset that she hasn’t had much success and might have to give up on her dream at this rate. Things didn’t get better after Kano hijacked her performance that day. I kind of feel bad for her, to be honest.
I find Yoru surprised that Miiko has been an idol for 14 years, meaning she is 32. Miiko revealed that she is 31, despite proclaiming herself eternally 17 years old. Is she trying to be like a certain famous Seiyuu who does the same? Sure, she doesn’t look 31 years old. It’s funny how Mei wonders how long it takes for the egg to hatch. Either way, she is getting desperate to get a viral hit, and if she doesn’t, her career as an idol is over. That is while taking a receipt for the posters Yoru ripped down,
Of course, Yoru and her friends see a glimpse of Miiko’s life doing activities for social media. All of them are deception and lies, and they also record a video of her life. Miiko works part-time jobs while faking to eat healthy food, working out, and walking to a station. Kano wonders what idol she is.
Yoru and her friends came over to Miiko’s apartment and saw Miiko’s daughter calling for her mother. Yep, it’s starting to feel like Oshi no Ko, Underground Idol edition, as Hoshino Ai has children, too.
Miiko’s daughter is Baba Ariel. However, life for Miiko is rough since she is a single mother. She works hard to make cute outfits for Ariel and her idol work while covering her daughter’s school and living expenses.
Of course, while Ariel’s outfit is cute, she doesn’t wear it outside the house, nor does she mention that her mother is an idol, as it doesn’t seem normal. She revealed that to Mei after doing karaoke. However, her mother, becoming an idol, somehow becomes less introverted.
As expected, Mei says that saving people from loneliness is one’s Oshi. It’s obvious where this is going. When Ariel says it’s a mistake to be an Oshi of her mother, Mei doesn’t think so. Mei showed that she still had faith in her Oshi, Nonoko, despite that scandal, as she saved her life and still believed in her.
As expected, Yoru regrets ripping down the posters Mikko had up, given how hard she works at making a living. Despite Miiko’s fake personality, it’s apparent that they are a cute mother-and-daughter pairing. Kano has interesting thoughts about her after seeing a glimpse of her life. That is while Yoru shares her thoughts about her mother and asks Kano about it before deciding not to. Still, Kano sees her relationship with her mother as a business partner rather than an actual parent.
As expected, Yoru asked about that kiss, which is why everyone wonders why Kano did that. She becomes flustered, saying she did it on the spur of the moment. I guess there is something more to it.
On the performance day, Ariel went to a shrine with her friends. She wrote a wish, hoping her mother would stay an idol. Of course, three boys bullied Ariel for wearing an idol-like outfit and her mother. When Miiko realizes Ariel is not in the crowd and notices the mean comments about her daughter, she comes to try to protect her. Eventually, Ariel gained the courage to stand up to the bullies defending her mother, as they didn’t know what she was like.
In the end, Miiko had Jelee stand in as Miiko appeared. It’s funny how they act like nothing happened as they run away. She finally made it back, and Ariel seemed happy to see her. Most importantly, Miiko finally comes clean with her lies and tells the truth that she isn’t 17 but a 31-year-old divorced mother, Baba Shizue. She wants to be a super idol for her daughter’s sake.
Most importantly, it worked out in the end as Shizue went viral, thus saving her idol career. There is nothing wrong with being a 31-year-old idol. After all, Hoshino Ai was 20 and had children, too, although she didn’t hide that fact. Also, one of JELEE’s most recent videos is about to hit a million views as Kano hopes it will get there. Also, they are getting closer to 100k followers, although they are now in competition.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night Episode 6: Never Too Late – The Yuri Empire
@chikorita157 I desperately wanted to watch this last night, but I was far too tired, and knew that I wouldn't be able to give it my full attention, so it's on the list for tonight!
Hope you will enjoy it when you get a chance to watch it. It was a fun episode.
This episode was proof that we need a Mama Live anime. It must happen!
Shizue being 31 was quite the surprise. Ariel was raised very well.
Glad they briefly addressed the kiss. It showed us that they won’t gloss over it. Much appreciated.
Sure, Oshi no Ko is kind of like that, but it’s interesting to see Miiko or Shizue being 31 and raising a daughter while being an idol. It’s a good thing that she admits this fact in the end and it’s work out.
Yep, it’s nice to see the kiss is finally mentioned, which only makes one wonder more about Yoru’s relationship with Kano.
