Another year went by so quickly. It has been yesterday since I wrote my 14th-anniversary post back in 2023. Today is Chikorita157’s Anime Blog’s 15th anniversary. Yes, my blog is basically a teenager now. It has gone a long way since I started the blog 15 years ago when I just started college.
With that, I will share my thoughts on the last year of blogging and plans for the future.
The 15th year of blogging marks the first year of anime blogging and not on Twitter. While it’s frustrating to get cut off by my mutuals who haven’t made it over to Mastodon/Fediverse yet. That said, while the first half of the year started strong when summer came along, there were hardly any shows airing like now. As a result, the number of comments made from July to September was quite a bit down.
Of course, most of 2023 is building up our community over at Sakurajima. My aim is not only to create a safe, fun, and inclusive Japanese media fandom and creators Mastodon and Misskey server but also to make a new community that includes the Anime Blogosphere as mainstream big social platforms get worse or even possibly die off completely. Still, we grew from around 50 active users to over 350 active users in a year. Sure, some bumps are coming, but I’m in it in the long run. You can learn more and join us at JoinSakurajima.
That said, I finally took the JLPT N2 last December. I will share more about my thoughts and what I got soon, but I need to retake it this year. Of course, I plan to do much more immersion to pass this year. I simply took the test with the expectation that I may not pass, but I got an idea of what the test was like. Additionally, I finally finished
Last month, I finally moved to a new dedicated server after using BuyVM for a decade. However, with my blog now being accessible through the Fediverse, it started taking a toll on my hosting as it was underpowered. It still struggles after upgrading the server to 8 GB of RAM and 2 cores. I got a dedicated server, which costs a little more but handles everything as a champ.
That said, while I’m not sure what I have planned for the 16th year of blogging, I have some big things scheduled for the future that I can’t reveal yet. Also, I hope that comments on my blog improve soon as I rebuild the indie Japanese media fandom and creator community. I hope that you will come to join us someday, too.
@chikorita157 Congratulations! :AquaYeah:
Thanks, it took so long to get to this point, but we did it.
@chikorita157 :blobfoxnomcake:
Cheers. and thanks.
@chikorita157 Looking forward to seeing if you are still watching anime on your fancy vision helmet by year 16:)
Yes, I still use it to watch anime on it. I have been basically watching all the anime I can on the Vision Pro and it’s better than dealing with the Apple TV and the barely working Hidive app. Also, the Projector probably uses more power than just watching in the Vision Pro and having the same screen size. However, the audio quality is not as good as the external speakers I have.
@chikorita157 No issues with scaling and aliasing and all such things?
Finally have the PSVR2 fixed, but I haven’t figured out how to watch something yet. Just looking at the big screen (that’s kinda where my TV is anyways) feels a bit of a letdown. But want to see what happens:)
(Not that I’m saying it’s the same experience as an Apple Helmet per se. Just curious of how well it does the scaling part :))
If you set the text smaller than the defaults, it can cause issues with it not being sharp, the same issues when you use 2440×1440 scaling on a 4K monitor. That is why 5K will be better for 2440×1440, although those monitors are expensive.
But I use a projector as my main setup, but the Vision Pro obviously looks better
@chikorita157 I love 5K, but can’t motivate the price for the Linux box for something like that. 1440 kinda sucks.
Tried watching “Did you know” from Hazbin Hotel on the PSVR2 and it wasn’t bad. Screen certainly is big. But it’s “just” a big screen in black to represent the TV you can’t see when not in VR mode. Because the OS isn’t in VR (why is that? What a fail on Sony’s part!) and the apps certainly aren’t.
But my TV looks better. But to be fair, it’s a good TV:)
I didn’t have any issues with scaling and aliasing though. So maybe those exist in my head. But I’m also not looking at UIs and text, which tends to be more sensitive.
Congratulations on maintaining your blog for such a long period of time. Not many people could achieve such an accomplishment!
Well done and keep up the good work.
Definately a feat as only a handful has this achievement, even for other content creators and thanks.
