After losing to Manaria, Rae quits being Claire’s maid because she feels she can’t be with Claire. The question is, is Rae running away from her feelings.
Last time, Rae made her forceful resignation of being Claire’s maid, which led to Claire crying a lot. Manaria, of course, runs into Rae and admits that she misjudged Rae. She never thought that Rae would run away from her about Claire.
While Rae wants Manaria to look after Claire, she is not buying it as she sees this as Rae running away. Yes, all despite losing that duel, as Rae claims that Manaria took Claire away for her. But in reality, she is afraid of getting hurt from possibly getting rejected. Manaria admits to experiencing rejection from the person she liked, a maid. She found that she wanted this person but smashed her feelings until she made a terrible mistake. It didn’t work out due to differences in status, and she regrets giving feelings that seek nothing in return.
Yep, she sees Rae making the same mistake as she believes that she can’t be with Claire because Rae and Claire are both girls. This shouldn’t matter, as love is love. When Manaria taunts Rae that she is going to have fun with Claire. That is when Rae thinks about challenging Manaria to the Amour Ceremony. The thing is, can she pull it off?
Rae ends up defeating many tree monsters to get a very rare drop. She takes this path since she promised not to use her prior knowledge. She managed to pull through despite Manaria having that Flower of Flora. Does that mean she won? Not really, as Rae brought the Branch of Eternal Love, which will weigh down the scale since it grows a big tree. It’s basically a secret item for a secret event. It proves that Rae loves Claire the most as she asks Claire to become her partner.
When Manaria started laughing, she admitted that she was after Rae the most. Manaria becomes clingy to Rae as Rae wants her to let go before Claire grabs Rae, saying it’s her. It took a while, but Claire has finally defrosted. Claire loves her back even if she won’t admit it despite everyone already knowing.
In the end, Manaria returns back to the kingdom. However, she talked to Rae a bit about the two extraordinary incidents. Rae won’t reveal any details except she is doing all this for Claire. Yes, there is that bad ending for her that Rae wants to prevent. With that, Rae and Claire go back to their usual life. Claire finally calls Rae by her first name. Now that is progress.
Final Thoughts
While I read 4 volumes of the manga so far (also reviewed the first volume) and haven’t gotten up to the 5th volume, the anime obviously exceeds expectations. WataOshi is one of the most important works, focusing on LGBT issues and wealth inequality. We see some through Rae’s struggles, which she eventually overcomes to at least win over Claire’s heart.
While I do not care too much about the princes, although one of them will become important, the other characters are interesting. While Rae and Claire are entertaining and enjoyable characters for obvious reasons, I did like Lene and Misha. Manaria is a mixed bag, given her tormenting Rae. She did this to push Rae closer to Claire. As for the animation, it’s good enough.
As much as I want to see more of the anime adaptation, most Yuri genre adaptations never get more than a first season. The question is, will this one buck the trend. After all, I am still disappointed there is still no second season of Yagate Kimi ni Naru despite being one of the most popular Yuri series. Then again, there is always hope that WataOshi will buck this trend.
Most of our homies have echoed this so not much I can add. Fun main couple, cool topics were discussed, relatable ladies for some which made them extra special to said viewers. Need S2 though, badly. This HAS to be the show that breaks the Yuri Sequel Curse.
Agreed, yes this needs a second season as there is more to the story, but I do hope that this is the one that breaks the curse. After all, people never thought this would get an anime since the LN was completed, but given its popularity, it may actually happen.
Yes, very few Yuri shows have more than one season, and while I do want Yagakimi the most, this is also high on the list. Please, please.
Thank you for your reviews.
You are welcome and I do hope that we see more sequels for yuri shows. I am still drinking copium over the fact that Yagate Kimi ni Naru doesn’t have a second season and may never get one.
