Given how barren the summer season is, as stated in my summer preview, I will start taking a look at Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! Precious Friends.
Synopsis
Hinata, Noa, and Hana, along with Kayori and Kanon, come over to Miyako’s house after school. After Miyako finished taking pictures, Hana and her friends had some sweets. After mentioning that her grandmother had made the flower hairclip, Hana and her friends decided to visit Hana’s grandmother, Sakura. Miyako’s/Hinata’s, Noa’s, and Hana’s mother allowed them to make a “practice field trip” since it seemed fun. Of course, Miyako eventually wore a rental Japanese-styled outfit. Someone took a picture with Miyako, Hana and her friends at a grape farm. They decide to go to a two-day retreat at a nearby hot springs inn while leaving Miyako, Hana, and the others at Hana’s grandmother’s place.
Meanwhile, with Miyako, Hana and her friends did various activities such as rafting, picking grapes at a farm, and doing a photoshoot while wearing the outfits that Miyako made. They eventually came back from dinner, which Sakura apparently didn’t make. Machi, one of her best friends, made the desserts and meals. Sakura lied as she was afraid that Hana would favor Miyako more. Hana reassures her grandmother that she didn’t.
Miyako, Hana and her friends went to a zoo the next day. They eventually went to a summer festival in their Yukatas and did various activities. However, Hana lost her hairclip, and she and Miyako looked for it. Eventually, they managed to find it, but they missed the fireworks. However, they got to play with the fireworks they had before heading back the next day.
Thoughts:
As expected, there are a lot of cute moments with the other pairings. Still, what makes Hana’s grandmother, Sakura, interesting is her relationship with Machi since it is very familiar to Hana and Miyako. Of course, while not romantic, Machi and Sakura became close friends during childhood despite the age gap. Machi was in high school, while Sakura was in elementary school. Of course, they made an exchange the same flower hairclip that Hana usually wears. Sakura promised to be friends with Machi even when they were grandmas. Even so, I admit they are cool grannies.
As expected, they remain best friends up to this day. While it’s funny how Sakura gets caught in a lie admitting she isn’t good at cooking. Machi did it, which shows how similar of a relationship Miyako has with Hana, although Miyako has some questionable tendencies. Of course, Miyako is not sure she can view Hana as a good friend, given the age difference. Sakura believes it’s okay to be friends despite the age gap as long it’s not romantic.
From what we have seen with the flashback between Machi and Sakura, it doesn’t seem romantic, which is a big difference compared to Miyako’s relationship with Hana. As one of my blogging friends, OG-Man says regarding this, maybe just wait until Hana is an adult.
Besides the outfits Hana and her friends wore for the photo shoot, which are cute and made by Miyako, there are other cute moments with the other pairings. I love how Noa imagines romantic moments with Hinata. This consists of Hinata helping Noa in helping her climb along with the indirect kisses and wanting to be fed. Noa gets her chances robbed one way or another, which is funny and sad at the same time, until the last day when she gets a taste of Hinata’s shaved ice. She even picks out a love fortune and thinks about Hinata before hiding this, which is cute.
There are some lovely moments with Kayori and Kanon, as in the cork shooting game, as Kayori wants to win the cute stuffed animal for her. Of course, Noa and Hinata, along with Kayori and Kanon, are always seen together.
Overall, it’s a fun 1-hour movie with many cute moments that people who enjoyed the anime series of Wataten and CGDCT enthusiasts will like. Too bad Kouko got left out of the fun with her little sister. Yuu. The only consolation prize Kouko got is a picture of Miyako wearing a Japanese outfit that she obsesses over. While it would be funny to see her tag along, it’s for the best. How would Hana’s grandmother react to Kouko being obsessive about Miyako?

Yuri Quickie: WATATEN! Precious Friends – The Yuri Empire
Someone in my pad said watching this movie gave them diabetes and that about sums it up. It was so cute and fluffy it filled my heart with pure joy.
Koyori and Kanon are excellent main protagonists leading everyone by example. Their blossoming romance is the dream.
Ganbare Noa! Hinata will one day acknowledge you as her #2. Hang in there.
Hana’s Grandma is still sexy for her age.
Mya-Nee X Hana is a cute age-gap but I am of course rooting for someone else, My only gripe is SHE deserved more proper screen time and not redoing her “Where’s Waldo?” shtick. Loved the post credit scene though.
Yes, there is a lot of cute moments, and it’s always nice to see more moments with Hinata and Noa. But yes, it’s a shame that Kouko is only left a few moments in the beginning and the end. You would of think that Kouko would follow Mya-nee on her trip. Probably too lazy, or she is stealthy, and nobody noticed her presence.
AAAAWWWW I’m a HUGE fan of Wataten, it’s one my favourites animes ever. Thank you for reviewing it.
Glad you enjoy the review.
