After Anon got a hold of Tomori after she got Soyo on board. Can Anon resolve Tomori’s reluctance towards doing the band thing again?
The third episode focuses on how Tomori and Saki formed a band. Tomori is a timid girl who tends to collect things that roll. That includes rocks and even pill bugs, which cause problems with her mother for the friend she made during elementary school. Her shyness reminds me of Goto Hitori but without her eccentric side. Does this make Anon more like Ikuyo?
I have to admit it was interesting to see Saki reach out to Tomori during middle school. Sure, she mistook Tomori for jumping off the bridge instead of grabbing the flower. We know that Saki is good at the piano. Of course, there is Soyo, who plays the bass. Taki, who plays the drums, and Musumi, the guitar. Of course, Saki discovers that Tomori is good at making lyrics and wants her to be the lead singer. Yes, it took some practice through karaoke, but she gained the courage to sing. They formed a band called CRYCHIC and performed their first song, Spring Sunlight (春日影). Of course, the band was inspired by the girl band Morfonica, covered in the specials.
Sadly, after their first performance, while many people liked the song, Taki noticed that mean comments harshly criticized Tomori’s singing. When Saki saw the mean comments from the Antis, Tomori stopped appearing for most practices until, that day, Saki decided to pull the plug on the band. Things obviously broke down, maybe because of the antis and Tomori not showing up. Then again, Saki pulled the plug to possibly protect Tomori. Still, the damage was done by the fight between Taki and Saki. Still, the backstory pulls on the heartstrings as Tomori isolates herself more from society and her worsened social anxieties.
After Anon heard about Tomori’s story, Tomori still blames herself for the band’s breakup. Soyo came by. Sadly, Tomori ran away as she didn’t know why her first band broke up. Sadly, Tomori still blames herself for this incident, which is unsurprising given the bullying and Saki quitting the band. Of course, Anon knew that Saki attended the same school as Tomori and Anon.
Things were awkward with Anon and Tomori the next day as something still bothers her. That is when Saki asked about the band to Anon. Of course, Saki feels bothered when she finds out from Anon that she recruited Saki. When she met with Tomori, she said that she shouldn’t keep her feelings in or something like that.
As for Saki, she was practicing piano before thinking about that incident. When she left school, she ran into Soyo. Soyo still wants to ask what happened since that day, but Saki wants nothing to do with it anymore. I don’t know why she was hiding the actual reason, although she is in the same school as Tomori but hasn’t realized it yet.
At Ring, Anon met with Tomori, Soyo, and Taki. She wanted to settle things on what happened, which caused Tomori not to want to be part of the band anymore. We find out that Tomori is not showing up, causing CRYCHIC to break up. Sure, Taki blames Saki, but it’s nobody’s fault. The Anti’s harshly criticizing Tomori and bullying her caused several events. I don’t think Tomori should beat herself, as Soyo points out that Taki really likes Tomori and wishes to start over again.
Now they understand what happened, and they want to try again. Hopefully, things will improve this time, as Soyo feels hopeful, especially with someone cheerful as Anon. I find it funny how Tomori wants to do the band thing for the rest of their lives. Yep, will they play music and sing when they are grannies? Of course, they couldn’t develop a good band name, and Anon is bad at figuring one. They will figure out one eventually. Also, Rana decides to join Anon’s band practice. Will she be joining the band too? Maybe.
After the credits, we see another two-girl band consisting of Ui and Mana in a band named Sumimi. Apparently, they finished their recordings. I guess we will learn more about them soon enough. On the bright side, next week coverage will focus on one episode only.
To be honest I’m just waiting to find out what was the message that forced Saki to pretend to betray the band in order to protect them or whatever she’s up to. Otherwise it’s vintage BanG Dream drama times 10. It’s not grabbing me but I’ll keep going till the end.
I am wondering about it too, is it because of Tomori suddenly disappearing after the first performance, but this is something they haven’t revealed yet. But the only good thing so far is well, at least the new bands are the main focus so far. The next episode kind of gets a better better, but…
Aside from that, a very lackluster summer season overall.
K-ON spirit lives, eh?
Cute show.
Sure, it deals with girl bands, which has similarity, but this has a bit more drama.
