With Koito’s grandfather dealing with some arm injuries, it’s up to Koito to prepare for the arrow shooting at the target for the Yumimi festival. Can Koito and Elda pull it off?
As expected, it’s evident that Koito is bad at archery as she shoots an arrow that is not the target. She does yet another near headshot during practice. Of course, it’s nice to see Elda show how it’s done. Believe it or not, she got a bullseye on the first try. There is no way Koito can get this good in a short period.
As for the actual event during the day of the Yumimi festival, I find it funny how Koito can’t understand what Elda is saying as she holds the target. Elda’s voice is not getting across to Koito. Still, seeing Koito shoot the arrows, she almost gave Elda two headshots with a close call. On the last try, Koito shoots the arrow up the sky and very far too.
Elda has to jump off the boat to help save it. She manages to have the arrow land on the bullseye, although she is in the river. Thankfully she made it, although everyone was surprised. At least they made it, and it shows that Koito and Elda make a good pairing, as Elda wants to make it a success. This is unlike Koito’s mother, Sayoko, who could not land a bullseye shot. At least Elda and Koito received a lot of food from their success.
The second segment is pretty light-hearted as Elda faces a string of bad luck. That is spilling all the pepper from the dispenser onto her breakfast, missing a delivery and ruining her card tower, the room light going out, and accidentally hurting her right pinky toe. She wonders if she might have a curse. I feel that it’s more of Elda being careless.
Still, this is a funny segment as Elda resorts to tsujiura, a formerly popular method of fortune telling that involves standing in an intersection, listening to others’ conversations and telling them a fortune. Of course, nobody came as they waited in front of the shrine until; Koyuzu came. She feels bliss when Koyuzu plans to make something delicious for Elda’s dinner.
With that, she thinks of using a specific bone from a mackerel to rid herself of the curse. Koito wants to put Elda’s new luck to the test. Yep, Koito breaks out the fortune without her grandfather knowing. Elda got lousy luck on the first try. Thanks to borrowing Koyuzu’s and Koito’s good luck, she pulled an excellent luck fortune as they celebrated. It looks like their grandfather found out, and he wasn’t happy at all. I guess they shouldn’t make much noise as they got yelled at. Elda wonders if it’s bad luck or just anger. I think it’s more of them doing things they aren’t supposed to do.
Final Thoughts
As expected, Edomae Elf is a surprisingly enjoyable comedy anime involving a Miko and an elf lady. I admit, seeing a secluded elf lady being into otaku stuff and a Miko who wants to grow up and wear trendy clothes. Sure, she finds Elda’s otaku tendencies at first, but she warms up to Elda. There are a lot of funny moments, including the time when Elda starts to use a smartphone.
Also, the characters are enjoyable as well. While I do like Koma quite a lot, she disapproves of Koma’s fashion choices. Also, her playing detective with Koito and Elda was funny. As expected, the other characters are fun, too, including Koyuzu and, of course, Haira with her Miko.
Still, it’s interesting to learn a bit about the Edo period and the cultural aspects of it. Also, it gave some insights into how things were after Elda went to another world. That said, it’s a fun watch, and it’s funny to see the number of product placements and fake brands. It’s obvious who sponsored the show. Overall, Edomae Elf is still a fun watch for those who enjoy schoolgirl shows.
My chill show of the season. Enjoyed the miko and their elf goddesses along with the small sprinkles of yuri goodness here and there.
Agreed, especially given that Koito and Elda are fun characters, the elf ladies are nice of course. Sure, not as heavy on the Otaku stuff, but it’s definitely there.
