Summer is finally here after the Blume election results are announced, and Sumika and Kanoko have become sisters. Mai brings out the summer uniforms. However, how the uniform looks on Mitsuki unsettles Hime for some reason. I wonder why?
While heading to the café, Hime tells Kanoko to wear a vest because it will look cute with a summer uniform. Speaking of summer uniform, Mai came with a new uniform, saying it was Liebe Girls’ Academy’s Sommer. What catches my attention is where is her arm cast? Is this an animation error, or Mai forgot to put it on as part of the façade. In the next scene, after the opening theme, she had it on, and nobody mentioned it. It’s a bit sus.
The summer uniforms look cute, although Hime seems to have some issues. She felt like the uniform was a cosplay outfit from a manga. She wouldn’t be half wrong. Sumika, of course, thinks Kanoko looks super cute in the new school uniform. That is until Mitsuki came out of the dressing room.
Her well-endowed chest brings a lot of attention, especially to Hime. She blushes completely red as Mitsuki thinks the summer uniform looks cute on him. However, Hime can only concentrate on Mitsuki’s breasts, which bounce because Passione is animating this show. Yes, the same studio that also Citrus, another Comic Yuri Hime adaptation.
Regardless, seeing Hime do all the work to cover for Mitsuki is funny. That is so the customers won’t get distracted by Mitsuki’s well-endowed chest. Of course, Mitsuki catches on to Hime doing all the work and decides to take over. The customer’s attention is on Mitsuki’s chest, and she wonders why Hime is doing all the work when she usually doesn’t. She also stands in front of her to hide her revealing chest.
Eventually, the summer uniforms aren’t working out, as Sumika says Mitsuki needs to hide them. Of course, Mitsuki complains because she really finds the outfit cute. Still, it’s too sexy for the customers to see that she had to cover it with a poncho that Sumika gave her.
Mitsuki feels down that she has to cover it. Hime decides to cheer her up by saying that Mitsuki shouldn’t be ashamed while saying Mitsuki is very mature and wonderful. It is funny how she takes the poncho off and brings Hime’s face to her chest. That is not what Hime wanted. I’m surprised that Kanoko wasn’t upset at seeing Mitsuki do this. Maybe because Sumika has her under control?
Ultimately, they settled it by having Mitsuki wear a vest on top of it so it’s not too revealing, and she finds it cute. Of course, she wants answers to why Hime made a big deal, and it’s obvious. Hime said she wants Mitsuki’s body and is simply jealous, which causes Mitsuki to blush red. I wanted to laugh at this segment since it’s funny, but I couldn’t because I was commuting home. Still, Hime’s reaction is something.
In the second half, they decide on a tea to serve as part of their personal recommendation. As expected, it went how I expected. While Mitsuki, Sumika, and Kanako make their personal teas correctly, Hime argues between two people over whether her “Engel” tea tastes like raspberry or strawberry.
Of course, this causes Mitsuki to act cold toward Hime after she fixes her mistake of not memorizing the tea list. Mitsuki says that she doesn’t like Hime, which is a lie as she blushes. Deep inside, she has a crush on Hime, but she can’t admit it like any tsundere. After all, Mitsuki blushes, indicating that she realizes that she kind of loves Hime. Overall, a lighthearted way to end the series, which doesn’t feel like an ending, but a cliffhanger.
Final Thoughts
Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu is an enjoyable yuri comedy. Sure, the characters have an unlikable aspect as they work in a maid café that is a parody of those Class S stories. Of course, this show has yuri and quite a lot of it as it digs deeper into the pairings of Hime and Mitsuki along with Kanoko and Sumika.
Sure, I had mixed feelings initially about Mitsuki mistreating Hime so severely. However, I liked the pairings and the characters themselves when they received character development on what happened that caused them to be on bad terms, along with the conflict between Sumika and Kanoko.
As expected, they are flawed, but that is how teenagers are trying to figure out their romantic feelings and sexuality. This is especially the case with Yoko and Nene, who are lesbians in a relationship until they break up. I like how this breakup helped provide Sumika some character development on why she initially wanted to stop Kanoko’s love for Hime. It’s because she thought it would cause conflict in the café. However, this only makes her feel she doesn’t understand romance, as she never fell in love.
Moreover, I felt that Kanoko was suspicious as she had a huge stash of Hime photos that she took secretly and played around with Hime’s hair. However, my feelings changed when Sumika got involved and tried to have Kanoko reveal her feelings about Hime and not keep them in. We know Kanoko doesn’t stand a chance against Mitsuki. However, Sumika is more understanding of how Kanoko feels about Hime instead of believing her behavior will ruin the café.
Overall, Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu is an enjoyable show with ups and downs. Sure, it has drama underneath the comedy over parodying the Class S stuff. Still, I can’t help the resolution of each tension. It ends up being sweet, but with the fear that it will cause more trouble. While it’s a stretch, I want to see more of this in anime form since Hime and Mitsuki pairing is cute. That is despite having all the manga that I plan to read soon.
Such a fascinating show. Wish it were more popular so we could get more animated but as usually is the case with yuri anime the odds of a sequel are slim. Would love to watch all the pairs continue to grow closer and see what will happen with my beloved Nene.
I guess one can hope, but the chances of another season happening is slow, but then again I can be surprised. But either way, I do plan to read the manga to see what happens next.
