It’s raining, and Elda is happy since she gets to stay inside. However, a leak from the ceiling starts to happen, and she panics. Also, Koito discovers an old tape, a recording at the shrine. What might it be?
At the Takamimi shrine, Elda seems happy that it’s raining. After all, she doesn’t have to go outside as she spends time on her laptop. After finishing her online shopping, Elda read manga under a Kotatsu. Koito did the same until she noticed a small leak from the ceiling that started damaging some of the boxes on top. I find it funny how they suddenly saw it, and Elda panics.
Thankfully, Elda managed to save them, although she must dry them. She is afraid of the carpenter coming into her room. Yes, it’s over the fact that they will find out that Elda is an otaku. Most people already know that Elda is one, given that she is shut in, talks about this stuff, and that people give her that stuff.
As expected, carpenters are going to come and repair the copper roof. Then, of course, this comes with Elda and Koito wanting to remodel and expand the shrine. As expected, he angrily yelled at them when they tried to propose it to their grandfather.
He will not give up the shrine’s traditional layout for something more modern. I expected this to happen, but the end result was funny. Either way, they talked about umbrellas, including the fancy one that Haira usually have.
It’s Interesting to learn more about the history of umbrellas from long ago, along with Koito using her “Channel” shopping bag as an umbrella because it looked cool. Then, of course, Koyuzu arrives back at the shrine, mostly soaking wet besides what is in her raincoat. Still, Elda envisions using a drone as an umbrella, which seems cool but impractical. Eventually, it stops raining as Koito and Koyuzu go outside. Of course, Elda decides to stay inside despite Koito and Koyuzu wanting her to go and play outside. It’s not too surprising to see Koito asking her to go out.
In the second half, Koito discovers that Elda’s room is messy. I find it funny how Elda references Animal Crossing New Leaf, mentioning having to clean up her island, finding out her turnips have spoiled and wanting to sell unwanted items at the Tanuki Shop (Nook’s Cranny). Yep, Koito wasn’t happy that Elda was cleaning up her island in a video game instead of her room, that she pulled her cheeks in displeasure. Still, it’s nice to see some retro consoles, especially that Nintendo 64. The funny thing is that Elda keeps putting stuff in the “Will Use Soon” box soon that Koito noticed.
Either way, the room eventually got tidied up. Elda mentions not organizing it for 400 years, and it reminds her of Sushaki. This is a practice they “sweep the soot away” on December 13. The date is expected because of an event they decided on back in the day.
Eventually, Elda and Koito came across some tapes, especially a small tape. That tape has a recording at the shrine, as Elda said 20 years ago, probably around 1997. Unfortunately, it’s not recorded on a VHS tape but a Betamax tape. This reminds me of that Kannagi scene where Akiba whips out a Betamax tape, and people wonder what it is before saying, “It’s a Sony.” Thankfully, Shimaden still has a Betamax player and an old Sony CRT to play it on.
As for the tape’s contents, Shimaden was taping Elda. Yes, Elda mentions playing Final Fantasy VII and being amazed by the graphics on the PlayStation. Also, she asks the lady if there is an arc where Aerith survives before discovering that Shimaden tricked her. Then again, the remake can change things and add such a route.
Given that Koito was probably born in 2002-2003, she would probably not know what this game is. That is before a familiar blue-haired girl, who is Elda’s miko. Koito’s mother’s name was Sayako, and she had a very familiar voice to Koito. She seems energetic as well. She is probably an early Millennial born in the early 1980s.
When Koito returned, Elda showed her the cleaned-up room. That is when Koito revealed that she saw her mother when she was young. It appears that Koito didn’t like the tape as she handed it back to Elda. Koito’s passing of her mother gave a bittersweet reminder of what happened. Thankfully, Elda tries to cheer her up by lifting her princess style. Of course, this becomes too much for Koito as she becomes embarrassed as Elda pushes her to do it before she runs away from embarrassment, which is quite funny.
Koito’s gayness grows a little stronger as the story progresses.
Strong moment of her seeing a little bit of what her mom was like back in the day.
It’s definitely a change when Koito complained about Elda’s otaku interests. Now, she is embarrassed over the thought of a princess carry is progress. Still, it’s interesting to learn a bit more about Koito’s mother.
