If you are wondering why WordPress posts aren’t auto-shared, here is another PSA for the Aniblogosphere. This is probably a time to move on from Twitter and look at the fediverse. I will share some reasons why.
Twitter changed its API policy in February to force developers to pay for API access. However, with Enterprise API access costing more than $42,000 a month, WordPress thought it was not worth it and decided to pull the plug on Twitter support.
Now, Automattic has decided to pull the plug on Twitter autos haring with the Socialize plugin, which allows the auto-sharing of Twitter posts. However, most anime bloggers on Twitter noticed their blog posts are not being automatically shared. However, they will be adding auto sharing support for Instagram and Mastodon soon. With the negative changes of non-Twitter Blue getting terrible visibility of their content, it’s time to move on.
Also, BlueSky is not an answer since it’s run by Jack Dorsey, who is responsible for selling out and ruining Twitter. Also, BlueSky has been a huge dumpster fire being just as bad, or even worse than Twitter with its TOS. The TOS states that you give BlueSky a perpetual and irrevocable license to all the content you post on it. Also, taking screenshots and using content from BlueSky is against the TOS and other nasty stuff. Also, its questionable labeling moderation system and making the user’s block list public make it an unsafe place.
While a handful of Anime bloggers and creators creating work surrounding Japanese media moved to the Fediverse, I’m working to create an inclusive place for them. The original Mastodon server at Sakurajima has been a chill place, and I have made new connections. That is after leaving Twitter. With Twitter being a hostile place for content creators, maybe it’s time to move to the Fediverse (and it’s not just Mastodon.)
If you consider joining the Fediverse, I highly suggest joining our community at Sakurajima (or clicking the Get a Mastodon Account button). A handful of Anime bloggers and other content creators are already in a well-moderated and inclusive Japanese media community. All Anime Bloggers, Japanese media-based content creators, and fans of Japanese media are welcome here. Just recently, our server turned 6 months old.
I know that Mastodon can have a learning curve. So with that, I plan on setting up a Calckey server soon , which is more like Twitter but is easier to use with Sakurajima Social (Sakurajima.social, which is now up. You can request an account using this form.
With that, I hope to see more of you at the Fediverse and don’t fall for the BlueSky trap. Trust me, it won’t be any better, and I won’t be there. After seeing what happened to Twitter and Jack Dorsey selling out, I don’t trust BlueSky.
If you have any issues joining our server, please mention it in the comments. Also share this post with your fellow Anime bloggers that might still be on Twitter.
