It’s evident from the audition that what Kokona was is not well received. Sadly, Kathrina still acts cold towards her as Kokona takes the role of Misao. It’s obvious where this is going.
As expected, imitating one’s performance can get Kokona so far. However, when Kokona mimicked Yae’s performance, it was clear that she blew it. Even Shizuka wondered what Konona was doing. Before that, Konoha looks at a version of the play she will perform with Yae and Panda as the leading roles. Konoha looks a bit down for some reason.
Of course, from the interview Kathrina is doing, it’s evident that Kokona didn’t get the leading role. Believe it or not, Konoha still feels down over not passing. Thankfully, Shizuka isn’t mad but disappointed. After all, while Kokona’s ability to copy performances is powerful, it can only get her so far. So she should learn the lesson now than later. Even so, Shizuka wasn’t sure that Kokona could have beaten Kathrina, given how powerful her sense and skill were.
As mentioned by Noa before, when Kathrina protested sharing a room, they might get roles of being family members and, well, being romantic partners. Of course, Noa thought Katarina’s performance was tedious since it was perfect. Now that Kokona plays Misao with Kathrina being her love interest Princess Kaguya, she really needs to play nice. We do see Kokona and Shizuka practice together.
Sadly, Kathrina is very stuck up as she bosses everyone on stage. She gets angry at Kokona, smiling in one scene since she did it “just because.” Wow, Kathrina really has attitude problems. Not only that, Kathrina insults Kokona. However, we see a small weakness in her senses as she gets upset over three girls fixing some equipment. Yae feels very bad about this.
While Shizuka suggests changing rooms, Kokona doesn’t want to. She asks for advice. She basically tells Kokona to work on her focus while insulting her. I have to admit that Katrina is just mean-spirited.
Thankfully, Yae gives Kokona sound advice telling her not to worry about what Kathrina wants her to do but strive to make an actual performance. But, of course, Kokona needs to believe in her no matter what Kathrina thinks of her and face her head-on without running away. I can see why she secretly followed Kathrina.
When Kathrina catches Kokona in the act, she admits to wanting to know her more. Still, despite Kathrina insulting her, Kokona is only startled by her and recovers quite quickly. Thankfully, she didn’t back down, and even on performance day, she performed well until that moment.
When the story is at its climax where Misao needs to say goodbye to Kaguya. However, a distraction from electrical sparks from malfunctioning equipment caused her sense to disappear. Now, Kathrina completely forgot her lines and started to break down. She is completely helpless, and it’s not the first time it happened to her. In a flashback, we saw her experiencing the same thing after the glass slipper dropped, and everyone started laughing at her.
Thankfully, Kokona remembered what Yae said, that she was the only one who could save someone on stage with them. Kokona did her thing by using her senses to improvise her performance. Of course, this also caused Shizuka to appear on stage, which has the same senses as Kokona, and everyone can see her.
Either way, Kokona saved the performance as she hugged Shizuka. Kathrina wonders who Shizuka is as Noa becomes interested in Kokona’s sense. At least we know one part behind the Shizuka mystery as she and Kokona share a sense as one eye shows she is using her sense. Kokona’s right eye and Shizuka’s left eye shine when they use it. Either way, learning more about them next time should be enjoyable.

Yes, the tsundere Kathrina arc needed to end somehow, but Kokona saving the performance is the best way to defrost her. Still, it should be interesting to learn more about Kokona’s sense is.
