Sadly, an outsider maid killed Ranko in a surprise attack while picking a hairclip for Nagomi. Nagomi goes to the dark side in the aftermath as Nagi threatens to exterminate Oinky Doink Café. The question is, does she become Ranko 2.0?
As expected, Ranko’s death was too much for Nagomi to bear. She wants cold blood as she looks for the killer using Ranko’s gun while wearing all black. Yet, simultaneously, she seems badass, trying to threaten the cow maid for information. She even uses a gun to open the cash register to steal money and tells her coworkers to buy weapons. She even went by the death site of Nerula and laced a bouquet saying that she couldn’t uphold Nerula’s promise. So the question is, did Nagomi go off the deep end?
Before getting beaten up, she also went by the ramen shop to learn more about Ranko. Instead, we learn more about Uzuko, also known as Nagi. We learned that Michiyo wasn’t that innocent since she was a ruthless maid. She took Uzuko in, an orphan and trained her as her successor. When Michiyo hired Ranko, Michiyo started to change thanks to Ranko’s innocent personality.
Uzuko didn’t like that. Therefore, she hired a hitman on Michiyo to continue the violence cycle in Akiba. We know why Ranko lost her gentle and innocent personality to something more stoic. That can explain why Uzuko seems annoyed with Ranko and especially Nagomi. With Ranko dead, she will surely go after Oinky Doink, especially with Ranko saying that Nagomi is like Michiyo.
Of course, Nagomi becoming Ranko 2.0 didn’t last too long, as a bunch of Creatureland maids beat her up and almost killed her. However, they spared her, and she went back to her dorm. She looked through Ranko’s stuff, which had some mementos. Yes, the hair tie Nagomi gave her, an origami with paper link chains, a bag of dirt from the baseball game and a photo. After seeing these items, Nagomi laughed and started crying as she returned to her regular self.
Either way, Nagi wants the maids to crush Oinky Doink, but her faction has some resistance. That is after bringing on that maid that killed Ranko from Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam that got one of her pigtails cut off. So the answer is, is she a mole? Either way, she killed two head maids, who went against her will. That is while the girls ate ramen before the big day. Then, of course, Nagi killed the ramen shop owner. But why? To keep the kill count up?
As for Creatureland coming to Oinky Doink, I never expected them to sit down and enjoy themselves. Nagomi had a performance, but while Nagi shot her near the waist, she still kept performing. Yes, Nagomi is the legendary maid whose other maids enjoyed their performance, and one of them gave her applause. Finally, Nagi has enough as she kills the lion head maid and shoots at Nagomi. However, she ran out of bullets, and Wuv-Wuv maid and Okachimachi finished Nagi off. In other words, her reign over Akiba has finally ended.
Jump to 2018, which of course, Cygames has to put Uma Musume billboards up. Not to mention, that show based on the mobile gacha game aired in the same year. So we see three guys who were regulars at the Oinky Doink going to the renewed one. Now, Akiba is peaceful as they see the famous 36-year-old maid. Yep, Nagomi is still alive but in a wheelchair. As expected, surprisingly, she fulfills Nerula’s promise without killing anyone, although she came very close to it.
Final Thoughts
As expected, Cygames usually come up with crazy concepts. First, it was Uma Musume, the next, Zombie Land Saga, and now, we have Akiba Maid Sensou. As expected, with the maids being like the Yakuza, when Nagomi, an average teenager who wants to become a maid, joins in, her world is turned upside down.
As expected, each episode is a wild ride, primarily because Yasuko, also known as The Manager, is grossly incompetent. This means getting into crazy situations to try to survive or earn money. Still, I am amazed that Oinky Doink manages to pull through, and the bad guys get the worst ending. Also, it’s nice to learn more about the connection of the first scene concerning Ranko and Nagi/Uzuko that leads to the current situation.
Lastly, the main cast is enjoyable. Of course, Ranko is the most amusing, given her stoic personality. That time in jail must have caused her to lose her innocent personality. Also, she develops a deep relationship with Nagomi as she treats Oinky Doink as family.
Also, Nagomi is enjoyable as she tries to uphold the ideal maid living up to moe moe kyun. Sadly, Nagomi and Nerula, while close to happening, got cut short. However, I think they would make a good pairing. Also, it’s nice to see Shippon, Yumechi, and Zoya get their time in the spotlight.
Akiba Maid Sensou, while it isn’t for those who can’t stomach a lot of killings, since there is a lot, is a very entertaining and interesting watch. Sure, you don’t know if Oinky Doink will make it out of a tricky situation or not. This makes watching each episode suspenseful since you don’t know how it will end. Of course, who doesn’t like cute maid girls that can fight? Of course, the nostalgia for the 90s is strong. Yes, especially with people who grew up in the 90s during their childhood or teenage years.
It went well for this show. Kind of different for what I am used to but I liked it.
Glad you liked it, but it’s definitely something different in terms of what I watched as Cygames comes up with the strangest concepts for stories that turns out well in the end.
Unpredictable, insane and worrisome. Those are the three reasons why I was so enthralled with this show and kept coming for more despite worrying about our heroines possibly dying at any point.
RanGomi kept going till the end even with Mr Mann’s shakeup. At least we know Nagomi undeniably loved Ranko.
Definitely a show I will not forget anytime soon.
Agreed, it definitely feels a thriller of course, but I have to give Cygames props on how they can pull something off and make it work. But yes, it’s surprising to see them kill off even the main characters.
Still, I hoped that Nagomi and Nerula was a thing, but it seems none of the pairings survived, Ranko’s death of course was so impactful as I never thought she would die.
But yes, the show will be a memorable one for sure.
