With the secret hideout finally complete, will it bring new members? Also, we see Juliet say farewell as Miku invites Serifu to do something during summer vacation.
The secret hideout is complete, with some boards pulled off the wall to finish the roof. Also, Serufu screwed in the last screw without messing up. Sadly, the same can’t be said about the screws that hold up the boards. But, at least, it gives character. Either way, it’s nice to see the girls bask in their final product. As for having a sleepover there, it’s kind of a bit small for that.
While it’s an achievement, the girls thought they won’t get any members and the club won’t receive funds. However, during Juliet’s farewell party, they seem okay just making items. It’s nice that two girls showed up after the girls continued without funding. Well, good thing this solves that issue.
With the first semester ending, Haruko threw a farewell party for Juliet Queen Elizabeth the VIII. As expected, the farewell gifts are interesting. Haruko gave a whole box full of treats that Juliet liked. As for Miku and Serifu, they gave a portrait of Juliet. Kokoro gave a statue of a tiger. Finally, Rei and Takumi gave her a manga and novel version of Hidamari no Shoujo.
However, Juliet finally says that she enjoyed building the tree house even though it’s different from the one she made with her mother. We also find out that Juliet’s mother passed away, and Juliet became distant from her father. She couldn’t stand seeing him that depressed, so she went to Japan. Now that Juliet built a tree house with many friends, it may make him happy. Either way, she went on a private yet, and of course, everyone at the DIY club saw Juliet’s plan leave take off and leave Japan.
As expected, Miku has one last thing she wants to do with Serufu. Yes, building that swing bench and wind chime. But, of course, Serufu managed to injure herself while talking more boards off the clubhouse. So, they will need funds to replace them, but it’s for a good cause.
Of course, Serufu injured herself while doing so, and Miku had to treat the injury. Then, we find out why Miku act like a tsundere after they build the swing bench. Miku looked after Serufu, and one day, Serufu said she didn’t want Miku to look after her when she entered middle school. Yep, that explains everything.
It’s nice that we finally went full circle. Miku and Serufu built a swing chair together with the wooden board from the old bench. It’s funny how she acted a bit tsundere when Serufu didn’t remember she said what she said. Either way, Serufu still has the wind chime that Miku gave her. While Serfu wants to hang it up, Miku wants her to keep it there so she can build a new one. Aside from that, I must admit that there are a lot of lovely Miku and Serufu moments. It’s nice that the pairing is finally on good terms, but I wonder if they are more than just best friends. Maybe.
Final Impressions
Do It Yourself is surprisingly an enjoyable show with girls doing DIY. Yes, things like building furniture and woodwork are stereotypically male-oriented activities. However, it’s nice to see cute high school girls with power tools building stuff. I think it’s empowering and hopefully encourage girls to get into DIY hobbies like woodwork. But, of course, that is in the future with self-driving buses and delivery drones.
While the characters are enjoyable, especially Juliet gave her personality and use of technology, Miku is probably the most interesting character. For 10 episodes, she craps on DIY since she has technology. Still, it was because Serufu said she didn’t need Miku looking after her. So when Miku finally became honest with her feelings, it was glorious. It’s nice to see Miku and Serufu get a relationship upgrade after they did DIY together.
Either way, Do It Yourself is a fluffy and lighthearted show. The story is what is on the tin. It’s what we need with shows like Akiba Maid Senou being the opposite airing in the same season. If you enjoy schoolgirl slice-of-life shows, I think you will enjoy this one.
The best chill show of the season. Wonderful cast of cuties and the epitome of Engrish. You either liked her or didn’t. Nothing we can or care to do about the latter.
The highlight of course was Serufu X Purin’s relationship. Love to see it.
Agreed, and it’s nice to see cute girls build stuff and have fun. Yes, it’s nice to see the development of Miku and Serufu’s relationship, but it’s more about Miku’s defrosting is the real highlight, even though I find her bashing the DIY club quite silly.
