Now that Momo and Mikan moved next door to Shamiko, they finally start investigating Sakura’s whereabouts. Of course, Shamiko finds a strange looking wand during the process.
As expected, Mikan finally shows her familiar to Shamiko. Yep, it’s a poisonous frog called Mikael that can transform into an arrow. I must admit that it’s not as cute compared to Momo’s Metako. Not only that, but it’s also dangerous and touching it can poison someone, just like those poisonous frogs in real life.
Also, I find it funny how Ryouko reads some books that are considered difficult for her age. Yep, she read a book about the history of purges and betrayals of Ancient China (裏切りと粛清の古代大陸史). I find it funny that she is reading that given how gruesome the contents are.
Apparently, she is reading it to help her older sister achieve world domination. Still, it’s a book that children shouldn’t be reading. Of course, the child-friendly book that Shamiko gives isn’t any better given Ryoko knowing a lot more than she should at her age. Also, it’s funny how Lilith finds out the convinces of school uniforms. Also, I find it amusing how Shamiko’s mother attempts to stack her husband trapped in a box with other similar looking boxes Mikan uses to pack her belongings.
With that comes the meat of this episode as Mikan and Momo went to the spot where Mikan’s family’s sweets factory used to stand. Yep, the mention of this place gives Shamiko bad memories when Momo tried to train her to use magic.
With that, we learn more about Mikan, which Shamiko becomes excited about. Mikan believes that Momo was like an angel back then. We learned that her father’s botched up wish made with the demon in his last-ditch effort to save his family’s business. Instead of keeping his family and factory safe, the devil twisted his wish and cursed his daughter. Yep, it shows that there are no shortcuts when it comes to running a successful business. Of course, Shamiko takes notes of this with her plan to make Momo her vassal, or rather her wife by exploiting her weaknesses.
We also see a glimpse of Momo meeting Mikan, who hid herself in a warehouse. While she doesn’t want Momo to get near her as she might hurt her, Momo is powerful enough that the curse doesn’t affect her. Of course, Momo have Mikan strange food that glowed pink and shaped like a spiked ball. Yep, Momo thought she made rice balls, but those don’t look like rice balls. I can see why Mikan doesn’t remember them although she thought she enjoyed them.
I find it funny how Shamiko tries to ask about other stories about Momo being an angel. Yep, Mikan was about the dance Momo does when she transformed until Momo showed up. She really doesn’t want Mikan to reveal that. Yes, Shamiko asked about the hole and apparently Sakura did it with her Sakurament Cannon.
As expected, it’s shaped as a Sakura flower. I find it funny how Mikan was about to describe Momo’s Fresh Peach Heart Shower attack that Shamiko desperately wants to learn about before Momo stopped her. Yep, I still wonder what Momo’s special attack that tries to keep as a secret. Maybe next time, I guess when Shamiko successfully makes Momo her vassal. The funny thing is that Momo finds out Shamiko’s plans to make Momo her vassal by exploiting her weaknesses. Yep, she became very embarrassed when Momo read it
While Momo looks for clues, Mikan notices that Momo doesn’t smile as often. Believe it or not, Shamiko believes that Momo only smiled after Shamiko said something embarrassing. This is when she heard a voice that led her to a wand which turns into a fork when she shows it to Momo.
When they got home, Shamiko finds out the fork is the weapon that Shamiko’s father used to use. It can transform into anything. Including a drying rack and even a pen filled with ink. Shamiko tries imaging it as a weapon, which turns into a big fork that became too heavy to hold. I find it funny how Ryoko and Momo research weapons. Yep, things like Anti-Tank guns like Javelins and anti-cavalry swords like the Zhanmadao.
Eventually, Shamiko remembered what Mikan said about Momo smiling more in the past. I wonder, why she doesn’t smile often. I guess this gives Shamiko the idea of not only making Momo her vassal/wife, but also find a way to get her to smile. Of course, she tries to crack a joke with her new wand/weapon, but Momo didn’t get the joke. Yep, Shamiko gets upset at her as she yells out of the apartment. I guess she needs to work on her comedian skills. Either way, it looks like Lilith is going to borrow Shamiko’s body next time.
The humor of the show remains on point as always.
Now we know how Mikan got cursed and her full tragic backstory.
Cool wand Shamiko has. Let’s wish her luck in making Momo smile from the heart.
Agreed. Yes, it’s sad that Mikan suffers the curse because her father decides to take a shortcut. Hopefully someday, it will get broken. Also, it’s quite obvious that the opening theme foreshadowed the wand and Shamiko actually finds it in the second episode. But it’s obvious she will do anything to make Momo happy.
