With summer festival finally here, will Tohru get that special moment with Kobayashi she dreamed of?
After Kobayashi heard about Tohru’s past, she also noticed how much Tohru changed recently. She is helping a lot of people lately. As expected, given the magnitude of Tohru’s past before she met Kobayashi, Kobayashi feels conflicted. She doesn’t know if she is worthy of being loved by Tohru.
Still, it’s understandable since Tohru is a dragon. Then again, Kobayashi shouldn’t worry too much since she saved her after all, At the same time, she kind of feels lonely with Tohru obsessing over her less while being focused on other things. Still, I find it funny how Kobayashi picks a Yukata for Tohru and she ends up going for the other. Figures.
As for the festival itself, Tohru apparently helped the maid stall. Surprisingly, she didn’t wear a maid outfit. Of course, I like how Elma only thinks about the food and even wants one of those Omurice. However, she doesn’t want to wait online with the fear of missing out on the other food. This doesn’t surprise me at all. She ends up stuffing her face as Kobayashi waits for Tohru. Also, Lucoa’s interactions with Shouta seems tame this time around. That is until Kobayashi asks if Shouta likes Lucoa.
Also, the small moments with Riko and Kanna were also cute. Of course, Riko manages to curb her enthusiasm for Kanna successfully and manages to hold hands. She even talks about going to the festival together, even when they are grown up and eventually become grannies. This makes me wonder about their future.
Eventually, Kobayashi meets up with Tohru after she changed into her yukata. Kobayashi wants to walk around with just Tohru. Yep, Kobayashi asks about the question that bothered her in the beginning of the episode. She eventually asks how Tohru feels. Yep, it’s obvious that she loves Kobayashi even if she is good at everything.
Even so, she feels at peace at being herself thanks to Kobayashi. After all, she saved her. As Tohru confesses to her despite Kobayashi being somewhat oblivious, the fireworks start coming off. What a nice moment, but what happens next will top that.
The next day, Lucoa invited Tohru and Kobayashi to a park with someone’s flesh turning into flowers. To me, it looks like a bunch of cherry blossom trees in full bloom, but during the summer. I figured that Fafnir, Takiya, and Shouta spend their time playing video games. Then again, I kind of do the same during social events. Also, the arm fist wrestling match was hilarious.
As expected, Tohru has a surprise as she decides to hold a wedding ceremony for herself and Kobayashi. Yep, she doesn’t just love Kobayashi, she wants to marry her. She even uses her magic to change Kobayashi’s outfit to a wedding dress as Tohru does the same. Yep, Kobayashi seems surprised as Tohru wants Kobayashi to say that she loves her. Instead, she calls Tohru an idiot as everyone chases after Kobayashi.
Final Thoughts
As expected, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S is what I expected from the first season, but with a different shift. While Ilulu was a controversial character, she isn’t as bad as I expected. Sure, her apparent crush with Taketo gave me mixed feelings, but she is still a fun character.
Aside from that, most of the second season focused on the other dragons, namely Kanna, Elma, and Lucoa for the most part besides Ilulu. Sure, Fafnir gets a few segments, but not as much compared to the others.
Even so, it’s always nice to see more Kanna and Riko, which there are plenty of. I liked how Riko manages to hold back her squee in the finale, which of course shows how much their relationship progressed. Also, it’s nice to see Kanna make another friend overseas, although Riko will always prevail.
Aside from that, it’s nice to learn more about Tohru’s back story before she met Kobayashi. Her relationship with Elma was interesting since she tolerated her for some time before they started fighting. I feel that a pairing with Elma and Tohru could have happened but didn’t.
Otherwise, besides the change in focus for this season, there is still the goodness from the previous season. If you enjoyed the previous installment, you will most likely enjoy the second season as well. This makes me wonder what they have in store with the upcoming video game, which will also have an English release. We’ll find out soon enough.
Some progress was made but as expected nothing conclusive. Oh well. Still a most enjoyable 2nd season.
Ilulu is love.
Sure, a focus on other characters slowed Tohru and Kobayashi’s relationship developments, there are still a lot of nice moments. Also, Ilulu is fairly enjoyable looking after that moment in the first episode.
The arm wrestling and shotgun wedding scenes where the funniest bit of the seasons finale. The festival scene was more notable for its sweet scenes with the main highlights being the Kanna/Saikawa and Tohru/Kobayashi combos.
As for the series as a whole, Ilulu was an excellent addition. Never saw the manga so can’t comment on what she was like there but I suppose the controversy here may have centred on her figure? She has a similar build to Uzaki-chan and people had a go at how she looked there. I figure that the source of people’s beef.
Beyond thw controversy, Ilulu was a cute girl who just wanted to have fun. The contrast between her childlike behaviour to her more adult like humour was also a blast.
It was also good that the comedy remained strong this season. What I got to say is the development of most of the characters is quite substantial as when we looked at them at the beginning of season one they were total misfits. But now bar fafnir and quezacoatl they only have integrated rather well into human society. It all game rather organically too so kudos to the writers for making this transition so believable.
This is certainly up there with one of the better shows of the summer season.
I don’t get the controversy, but still Ilulu is an enjoyable character. I guess haters are going to be haters, but still, the second season is still enjoyable regardless. It’s nice to see more Kanna and Riko moments and of course learning more about the side characters, especially Elma and Tohrus past.
Pretty good second season. Loved Ilulu, didn’t care about the new boy at all.
Nice seeing the other characters all get their time to shine, especially Elma.
Step in the right direction for Miss Kobayashi and Tohru.
Riko still reigns supreme.
Agreed. Have missed feelings about Taketo, but everything else is good.
