After Reina nearly killed the bandit’s boss, we finally find out her dark past. Of course, Pauline, Marvis and Mile shares their own too.
From the looks of it, Reina had a pretty hard past. Not only her mother is gone, a bunch of bandits kills her father. Apparently, her father does not want the bandits to take her daughter. When they killed him, Reina became traumatized, until a group of hunters saved her. The party, Crimson Lightning took her in. She became very close with their mage, August that helped train her magical abilities. She eventually received a staff from the party and August’s pendent.
As for the reason Reina accepted the merchant protection quest from last time, it was because of her dramatic experience. The merchant leader betrays the party by trying to exchange Reina and spare half of the merchandise. This violates the guild’s rules, but he did it anyway. Yes, it’s because of greed. August protected her, but the bandits killed her along with the rest of Crimson Lightning. Reina became enraged that she burned the traitor and the bandit boss to the crisp. Marvis becomes sympathetic towards Reina after hearing her story.
While it’s understandable why she revenge killed them. After all, seeing bandits taking away the things are precious to her was too much to handle. But as they say, two wrongs don’t make a right. In other words, killing the perpetrator is not necessarily the moral thing to do despite their misdeeds.
Aside from that, we learn about Pauline’s and Marvis’s past. Pauline’s past seems sad just like Reina, but with a different end result. Apparently, a bunch of thieves killed their father who owned their family business. The head clerk took their business away from them and took her mother. Of course, just like Pauline, her mother plans to fulfill her final duty. Also, she has a sadistic side. This can explain why Pauline acts in a similar way. As for Marvis, it’s quite straight forward. She got sick of being a princess, so she cut her hair and run away from home to become a knight.
That leaves Mile. Apparently, Mile is just an alias and her actual name is Adele von Ascham. She eventually gained the memories of her past life. The first part of her memories felt like Cinderella with her living in the attic and doing chores. Her father killed her mother and grandmother and brought in his mistress and daughter. This can explain why they treat Mile so badly.
She eventually practiced using her new abilities and started life at an academy. Of course, her wish of having a normal life didn’t last long because of her abilities. I find it funny how she makes references to Pocket Monsters and Cardcaptor Sakura while coming up with a mascot. It took 150 times to create mascot she is satisfied with. She eventually befriends three girls at the academy.
One day while watching a parade, a boy tripped into the road where the parade is happening. The knights are about to kill him until Adele protected him. She eventually pretends being a vessel of a goddess using her powers. I guess this is inspired by her Chuunibyou tendencies. Everyone started to worship her. Eventually, she releases herself from this and vanishes. Still, I am quite curious what happened after Adele changed her identity and joined the hunter’s academy. We’ll find out soon enough.
Overall, it’s nice to learn about everyone’s backstory. Sure, Mile’s/Adele’s backstory is crazy, I kind of feel sympathetic towards Reina and Pauline. Either way, it seems that now everyone in the party now knows everyone’s past, they will make sure their party and friendship will last forever given their circumstances.
Ah yes.
This series is riddled with many references.
It’s not to surprising since Mile’s past life was a huge otaku. Still, the references are funny though.
Reina’s was sad as expected.
Pauline’s was somber but vintage her.
Mavis’ purity is one of her strongest assets.
Mile has yuri harem powers. Hopefully we’ll see her old harem girls again at some point.
It’s interesting to see everyone’s past. Still, Mile seems to impress other girls while attending the academy. Her former classmates are probably sad that they couldn’t say farewell to her, but it’s not too surprising.
