As Mangetsu finds out the harsh truth about her existence, the battle between Kuon and Suishou continues.
From last time, Suishou stabs Mangetsu to reveal that Mangetsu is not actually human, but a doll. This feels similar to when Sayaka finds out the truth about the soul gem and the realization that she is not human anymore. It’s kind of like that, but with more despair rather than sheer recklessness. After the battle ends, we find out that Ernesta knew about this and didn’t intend to hide it. Nene couldn’t tell Mangetsu the truth since it was too late since Granbelm already started.
There is an interesting reason Suishou already knows the truth about Mangetsu. She too is not human either. While Kuon almost defeats her by overwhelming Suishou with all the magic so she can deal the finishing blow, she fell short. When Kuon fused her older sister’s magic, she deals the finishing blow on Suishou.
However, she soon realizes that Suishou is still alive as she murders Kuon. The thing is that what happened to Anna also happened to Kuon. Nene eventually reveals this fact to Mangetsu as people actually died while competing in the Granbelm. A powerful magic interference erases their existence. However, this only happened to Anna and Kuon and not Nene and Rosa. Maybe it’s because Mangetsu defeated them.
However, Kuon’s older sister, Shisui knows about her failed plan to defeat Suishou that resulted in her little sister’s death. This makes you wonder if she is trying to help Ernesta out by knowing that Suishou is the final boss. Sadly, it appears that she can’t enter the Granbelm again as Kuon took her place. Still, this makes me wonder if she will help Mangetsu and Ernesta out to defeat Suishou.
Aside from that, we begin to see Mangetsu’s suffering and despair. When she returns to her home, Kibou nor her parents recognize Mangetsu. This is when Mangetsu freaks out as she tries to see her reflection, but there is none. She looks at her phone and everyone and all the contacts she knew disappears. Thankfully, Nene and her sisters found her and stabilized her existence.
At last, we find out the truth about Mangetsu. We obviously know that Mangetsu is not human and requires magic to exist. Since the disturbance is gone, if left unchecked, she can completely disappear. This is exactly what is happening to her until Nene stepped in. As a result, Mangetsu can never become the princeps mage, only Ernesta and Suishou can. The thing is, Nene doesn’t know that Suishou is not human either. In other words, Ernesta is the only mage left that is eligible. This makes you think about the purpose of the Granbelm.
Also, Nene reveals the purpose of Granbelm is not what it seems. Believe it or not, Mangetsu is a doll created by the Magiaconatus. This can explain why Mangetsu possesses powers that a mage would not typically have. This makes you wonder if it has some connection to Ernesta since Mangetsu is close to her.
Aside from that, it seems that Suishou knows more about the purpose behind the Granbelm than anyone else believes. She reveals the truth as she tortures a doll that Mangetsu used to possess. We find out that Granbelm is not a competition as we were to initially believe, but more of a trial. Apparently, Ernesta already have great magical powers. The Granbelm is created to test her talents.
As expected, Magiaconatus created Mangetsu to help Ernesta out to achieve her goal. Not only that, she is also in love with her. This can also explain some of the events that happened so far with Ernesta having no parents, Anna being envious at her and so on. The thing is, will Ernesta believe what Suishou said as the truth?
With that, Mangetsu finally thanks Nene and her sisters as she leaves. Before she left, Nene wants her to talk things over with Ernesta. Either way, Mangetsu looks at the lake wondering if she should ask Ernesta to use her magic so she won’t disappear. It’s obvious that Mangetsu fears what will happen next. Her situation is starting to look like Sayaka’s minus the effects from the wish and that she doesn’t become violent, but more towards despair.
In the end, Mangetsu has strong feelings of grief and despair now that she knows that she is not human yet she can still feel pain. This is when someone felt Mangetsu’s head. It’s Shisui, which is Kuon’s older sister. I wonder what will she do to help Mangetsu and Ernesta out. We’ll find out next week as we inch closer to the end.
Having reached the climax the show unveiled its true colors at last. As expected it wasn’t pretty.
Very intrigued in what Shisui has to say and how our lovable duo will bounce back from Rock Bottom.
It’s not too surprising given the big reveal from the last time. But yes, hopefully they will bounce back. Still, I wonder how Shisui will help them considering that she lost her little sister.
