With Bocchi’s first year in middle school comes to an end in two months, she comes to a sad realization. She officially made only 5 friends. Also, her work might go down the drain at the start of her 2nd year. Yes, she is afraid that she will become separated from her friends. Moreover, she has to make new friends again in a different class. This won’t happen once, but twice.
I find it funny how she didn’t realize this until now. Bocchi’s year-long effort might go to waste. In most schools in Japan, each year, students will get placed into different classes. Now, Kai never specified in the promise she made with Bocchi about this.
Now, Bocchi is in a big bind now that she will become separated from her friends and have to do all that work over again. I find it funny how she tries to join a group, especially the tap-tap one. Sadly, Bocchi can’t join since she doesn’t have a smart phone.I find it funny how she is still using a flip phone when smartphones are a mainstay around the world. Despite asking for one, her mother won’t give it to her until she enters her second year of middle school. When that happen, Bocchi’s feared class change would already happen.
While at the chicken coop, Bocchi is in distress on what she should so. Her plan eventually flies away. A girl picks up Bocchi’s plan to stop the change of class. After she complimented Bocchi, Bocchi says a funny catch phase. That girl happens to be Ojousa Mayo. Her name is a pun which means that she is a rich young lady.
I find it funny how Mayo tries to help Bocchi by suggesting her to buy the whole school. As they say, screw the rules, I have money. While she finds Bocchi a job folding cranes, it only net Bocchi around 500 yen. I don’t think you can buy a whole school with only a 500-yen coin.
I find it funny how she goes to the school supply store and the old lady had to explain that the school is not for sale. While Mayo eventually finds out that classes do not change each year, she kept that fact a secret. That is until Bocchi teaches Mayo how to fold a paper crane that she revealed the full truth in private. It’s quite obvious that Mayo wanted to spend time with Bocchi since she is lonely. She rarely sees her parents since they travel overseas for work.
Thankfully, Bocchi and her friends reached out to Mayo to take a photo booth picture together. I find it funny how Bocchi couldn’t insert a 500-yen coin because it won’t accept it. Not only that, after they took the picture, Bocchi accidentally revealed what she wants to write on the picture.
Just like that, Mayo eventually becomes friends with Bocchi. This is a good thing as she finally can share the photo of her new friends to her parents while sharing how she feels.
With the fear of the class change being a non-issue since it won’t happen, Bocchi finally made another friend. Now, she only has 23 more people left to make friends with. At least she is making progress. Either way, it seems that next week is the last episode. I wonder what will happen as the start of her second year in middle school begins. We’ll find out next week.
