At last, summer vacation is finally here. However, Bocchi seems down for some reason. We find out soon enough.
From the look of It, it seems that last night’s dream upsets Bocchi. It can easily be summed up as this. Bocchi saw Kai. Kai tells her she can’t be friends until Bocchi made friends with everyone in her class. As she walks away, Bocchi calls out Kai’s name. If this already indicates what will happen in the second half, this will.
With Bocchi becoming desperate to become friends with Kai again that she tries to talk to other girls. It doesn’t go so well. She couldn’t face and talk to Yamada Hanako, which is one of Aru’s friend from the tennis club.
Of course, Bocchi tries again. She takes off her ribbon and talk to Kurai Kako. I find it funny that Bocchi thinks that Kako is lenient. As expected, Kako scolds Bocchi for being lax before summer break. I understand that Bocchi wants to make friends, but she asking for trouble considering that Kako is on the disciplinary committee.
After school, Bocchi and her friends went to a playground. This is when Nako finds out why Bocchi feels down. It’s because of the dream that Bocchi had with Kai breaking relations with her. At least Aru came up with a good idea of doing summer activities together. That way, Bocchi can become a little less shy. I think this is a good idea, besides the fact that we will have a beach or pool episode of some sort.
On the first day of summer break, Bocchi and her friends went to a public pool. While some might be disappointed that Bocchi and Sotoka wore a school swimsuit, it’s nice to see Nako’s and Aru’s. I have to admit Aru looks cute in hers. The funny thing is that she ultimately learns that Nako doesn’t know how to swim. It’s somewhat obvious when Nako insists of watching her friends play in the pool. As expected, Aru uses this weakness against Nako. While Bocchi teaches her how to swim, it seems that she is not that great of a teacher.
The next day, Bocchi and her friends go to a karaoke bar. It’s funny how Bocchi is afraid of getting a drink at the juice bar when it’s free. Aside from that, it seems that she is too shy to sing in front of her friends. I kind of expected this already. Not only that, Sotoka doesn’t know any Japanese songs and Nako doesn’t want to sing. That leaves only Aru. How unfortunate, no pun intended.
Of course, there is a moment that really upsets Bocchi. She notices Kai walking in the hallway. She tries to call her name for attention and show that she made friends. Of course, Kai ignored her as she walks away while her two of her friends saw Bocchi starting to cry.
I have to admit that this is cruel and abusive. I understand that Kai wants Bocchi to be less reliant on her. Still, the way that she handled the situation by not acknowledging Bocchi’s efforts is mean. Bocchi should just forget about Kai as she is not her real friend. She doesn’t need friends like her.
Aside from this awkward encounter, it’s nice that Bocchi is having fun with her friends. Sure, it’s a long stretch to see her sing karaoke, I kind of wish we got to see Aru sing. Hopefully someday, we will get to see Bocchi sing.
