You might be wondering how unfortunate Aru is. At last, we get to find out in her own episode.
I have to admit that this episode was hilarious mostly because it focuses on how unlucky and unfortunate Aru is. Her lack of luck is getting pretty close to Hanakoizumi An’s. On the first day, she accidentally carries her elementary backpack, namely a randoseru.
While Hana notices it, Aru obviously becomes self-conscious since she doesn’t want to be seen in front of Nako. After she sees her with the wrong bag, she will call Aru unfortunate in front of her friend. The funny thing is that Aru fakes a sprained ankle and Nako saw her with the wrong bag. Thankfully, Nako didn’t call her unfortunate in front of Hana, so at least she should have a sigh of relief.
When it comes to class, I find it hilarious how Aru made it out of the woods, but not quite. The teacher said that they wanted her to read the next page. Now that is pretty embarrassing. Thankfully, she didn’t make the same mistake the third time.
Of course, Aru’s being unlucky hits a new level. I find it hilarious how she ends up wearing an elementary school uniform to school. She tries to fake her identity by saying that she is Aru’s little sister, Mieru. While Hana believed it, Nako did not and laughed at Aru. She even attempted to take a picture of her. She also tried to deceive Bocchi and Sotoka, but she ends up telling the truth. Still, Bocchi seems happy that she can see the elementary version of Aru.
In the second half, Aru’s unluckiness goes to another level. She challenges Nako to a tennis match. If Aru wins against Nako, she can have her stop calling her unfortunate in front of her friends and laugh at her. In other words, it’s retribution.
Sadly, the tennis match doesn’t go in Aru’s favor since she can’t serve the ball. She only manages to do it once. After Nako scored her 7thpoint, Aru conceded defeat. It shows that Aru needs to go to her tennis practice more often so that she wouldn’t be this bad.
In the end, Aru literally conceded defeat. After all, Nako thinks that Bocchi might like unfortunate Aru more. It’s obvious that Nako doesn’t hate it either, to Aru’s dispair. Still, it seems that Aru is not happy about it, but if Bocchi is okay with it, it’s alright. Given that her comb and hair brush are still in her hair, I guess she will eventually accept how unlucky she is.
Aru is one adorably unlucky girl.
This episode intensified the Aru X Nako ship. Understandable.
I guess her lack of luck almost matches Hanakoizumi An’s. Still, it’s quite obvious that Aru secretly enjoys being called unfortunate and headbutting her.
Anne has it worse actually. Poor dear.
