After the teacher introduces Quetzalcoatl to the class, Himeno feels uneasy. I wonder why?
From last time, Quetzalcoatl transferred into the school Himeno and her friends attends. Her introduction caused her classmates to become curious. This made it relatively difficult for students to pay attention during class. She goes to her desk next to Himeno. She eventually smiles at her or rather, open her mouth wide open. As expected, this scares Himeno and causes her to faint.
Nozomi and Kyouko worries about Himeno after waking up. They think that students might convey her fainting as discrimination. Thankfully, it’s not that, but rather a fear towards them that came as a result of seeing a B-rated film. Yes, the film, Fear of Antarctica had a snake person eating a female centaur whole. Given that she watched it as a child, this can explain her anxieties.
Eventually, Shigetoki brings in Quetzalcoatl into the nurse’s office to clear up a misunderstanding. It seems that she is trying to smile. To clear things up, Nozomi and Kyouko takes her and Himeno to see the aforementioned movie. Surprisingly, the movie seems to scare them both.
Thankfully, Quetzalcoatl explains that she can’t eat others given her small fangs and inability to chew or shallow things whole. In other words, she is completely harmless and just wants to make friends. Still, it seems that she has a long way to go until she can smile without managing to scare people. At least she is getting lessons to show emotion like a human as revealed later.
In the second half, Quetzalcoatl answers questions from her classmates. We learn that her race is warm blooded creatures and that she lived in region that had heating. Also, her race does not actually control any humans. In fact, their interactions with them happened recently. It’s not until recently that humans started interacting with them. Still, it’s funny how one of the girls ask if Quetzalcoatl has a boyfriend when most people in her race is female.
At home, Quetzalcoatl spends her free time learning more about humans and fitting in with society. However, she saw on the news that a mysterious UFO attacked an American ship. The Americans are blaming the Antarcticans. After hearing this, she faints. Thankfully, nobody discriminates against her despite the accusations.
Aside from that, she had a lot of fun hanging out with Hime and her friends. Not only they go clothes shopping, they also ate crapes and watched a movie. Still, it’s funny how Kyouko said that Nozomi look like “a boy dressed in drag” after trying on a dress. I guess Nozomi’s unkempt short hair doesn’t help. After all, she looked cute in dresses that she wore in the second episode.
An insightful episode and as you predicted there was some discrimination towards Antarcticans. Despite that, Suu fits in quite well with the cast.
It’s nice that Quetzalcoatl fits in quite well… But it’s obvious that she will be okay in Japan given how strict they are when it comes to discrimination, although some will do it behind their backs.
Hopefully things won’t get out of hand.
