With Asuka absent with an ominous announcement, Kumiko finds out what she is hiding.
It seems that the members are still having no luck in bring Asuka back after Taki’s annoucement. Now that Natsuki will be her replacement, it seems that she wants to bring Asuka back through an operation. As expected, Kaori came up with the plan. Everyone knows this will happen since Kumiko is going over Asuka’s house. Will this change anything?
At the study session, Asuka reveals how she got into the euphonium and why her mom disapproves it. It seems that Asuka’s father made the euphonium cd that Kumiko owns. You can tell easily that he couldn’t stand his wife given how she acts. It’s also obvious why she had objections to her daughter playing the euphonium after Asuka receives one in the mail. It probably reminded her of her husband. I am glad that Asuka and her mother agreed that allowed Asuka to keep playing if she kept up her grades.
Sadly, it seems that Asuka was a bit too greedy. As a result, her grades started to drop when she focused too much on nationals. Even so, it’s interesting to see why she wants to keep playing. Not only she does it for self-enjoyment, but she also wants her father to recognize her achievements. This is why she really wants the band to go to nationals since her father is one of the judges.
It’s quite obvious where this is going. Perhaps Asuka’s mother doesn’t want her daughter to play in nationals. Maybe her mom still have unresolved feelings towards her husband. But at least we now know the reason Asuka continues to play the euphonium. This can also explain why she was reluctant to have Nozomi part of the band again. It would interfere her ambitions. With that in mind, will Asuka somehow convince her mom otherwise. We have to see next time.
