Hibike! Euphonium Second Season – Episode 2 – Pool Party and Nozomi’s Reason for Quitting

October 12, 2016 by Chikorita157 1 Comment
Reina impressed Kumiko and Midori with how she looks in her swimsuit.
Reina impressed Kumiko and Midori with how she looks in her swimsuit.

As the girls takes a break before the music camp, it seems that trouble continues to brew regarding Nozomi’s desire to rejoin the Bass Band Club.

Before touching on the drama, aside from the summer fireworks, the girls decides to go to a pool. It’s surprising to see Reina wanting to go since she is not the type of girl who have fun at swimming pools. Still, I have to admit that she looks pretty in the swimsuit she was wearing. When Kumiko saw her, she wishes that she is gorgeous as her. Not only that, we also see Asuka and Kaori. It’s funny how the girls didn’t recognize Asuka without her glasses.

Nozomi is adamant about quitting when told not to do so.
Nozomi is adamant about quitting when Asuka told not to do so.

Aside from the lighthearted moments, most of the episode focused on Nozomi herself. Kumiko met her when she ran into her at the pool. They talked to each other on why she quit. Nozomi quit because the third years not taking competition seriously.  She wanted the third years to practice so that the band can compete with better bands. Sadly, it seems that the third years didn’t want to take the competition seriously and everyone was afraid of them.  As a result, she simply convinced half of the 2nd year students to quit.

So, why does Nozomi wants Asuka to approve her rejoin request personally? Well, Asuka tried to convince Nozomi to stay. Since the third years are going to graduate, things are going to get better. Sadly, it was too late since Nozomi made up her mind, which is not surprising given what Natsuki said to her.

Natsuki realized that she caused Nozomi to quit.
Natsuki realized that she caused Nozomi to quit.

As revealed later at camp, Natsuki revealed that she said something that escalated the conflict between Nozomi and the third year students. She told her not to bother with them since the third years are “total divas.” Yes, that can explain everything. There is no wonder why Natsuki wants to help Nozomi since she felt sorry for her for making those remarks. Given that Natsuki looked up to Nozomi, who was the president of the Minami concert band, it’s easy to see why.

Mizore finally talks to Kumiko on how she hates competition.

While it’s easy to be sympathetic towards Nozomi given what happened to her, it doesn’t explain why she didn’t talk to Mizore. When Kumiko talked to Mizore, it seems that Mizore wished that competitions didn’t exist. Despite that, she doesn’t know why she continues to play the oboe. Maybe Mizore is hiding the promise she made with Nozomi for some reason. Either way, Nozomi and Mizore will eventually have to confront each other.

Is this the type of women Taki is interested in? Maybe.
Is this the type of women Taki is interested in? Maybe.

In the end, it seems that Kumiko will talk to Asuka about Nazomi. I wonder what the outcome will be. Either way, it seems that Reina is in disbelief when Niiyama Satomi came. She is definitely pretty, which of course spreads rumors if she is Taki’s girlfriend.  While Taki admits that he doesn’t have a wife or any kids, he is more focused on the band than romance.  Even if he is looking for love, he will most likely settle for a woman around his age like Satomi. Either way, it’s a losing battle for Reina in that respect. Just saying.
