It has been a while since the girls had some happiness training. With that, Kodaria finally announced that there will be a field trip that will help them build luck. As for Hanako, it is a disaster waiting to happen.
Compared to the first activity that involved a life-size board game, it seems that this adventure can be either a walk in the park or downright miserable. Given that Hibari have average luck (if you don’t take account her unhealthy obsession of a certain sign) compared to Botan and Hanako, it’s obvious that with her friends, she is dragged down as a team, especially when Hanako almost fell into a river after getting stuck on a bridge. The funny thing is that Ren and Hibiki managed to be the last group. It’s not so surprising since Hibiki is terrible at directions. At least they manage dto find Hibari and get to the other side of the bridge before the monkeys cut the ropes.
While Hibari came crazy prepared by making enough lunch to feed her group along with Ren and Hibiki, the rest of the episode pretty much shows how unfortunate Hanako is. Sure, Hanako is a bit odd considering that she was the only one in the class that kept her egg intact and managed to hatch it, but nobody, not even Kodaria thought that Hanako’s terrible luck would be the charts likewise with her devil’s luck. Aside from losing her hair charm, falling into a river, had rocks fell on her and getting attacked by fish before hiding behind the sign Hibari seems to like, she almost passed out. Top that off with Hanako losing her lunch to a bunch of monkeys, her terrible luck is something that can’t be fixed with happiness training alone since it’s so unpredictable.
To make matters worse, a bear from a nearby petting zoo has broken loose. No, it’s not as friendly as the one in Kumamiko, it’s an intimidating black bear that is out to eat the girls for its next dinner. As expected, Kodaria came out of the blue being crazy prepared with guns and tranquilizers to take it down. Of course, she has a license to use them. It just shows that she isn’t too evil after all since she won’t let any of her students get harmed. Aside from that, thankfully Botan came fully prepared so that the girls can distract the bear and treat Hanako before Kodaria came to save them.
While this trip was miserable for Hibari and her friends, it seems that being together even if Hibiki doesn’t like it made them happy in the end. As they say, being unlucky is a challenge that people have to overcome. If they work together, anything is possible, even overcoming the thing that makes one unfortunate. Aside from that, I am glad that Botan managed to survive the trip without breaking anything. I thought it would be hard on her despite collapsing a few times.
