I have to admit that this is the off the wall hot spring episode I saw. Normally, those are not too insane and focus mostly on the fanservice, but this one takes the cake.
While this episode will give mixed reactions depending on the viewer, it just took hot spring episodes to another level. Apparently, a hot spring with monkeys bathing appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the school, causing the classrooms become a sauna to the point where students couldn’t pay attention.
To make sure that their summer vacation is not ruined with classes might be canceled for the time being, the Phantom hunting club decides to take things into their own hands. This is where things got rather silly. It seems that every student tried to use their abilities. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t subdue the big one whatsoever. Even the so-called “Beach Angels” who are very attractive couldn’t even defeat them either and end up getting licked by the big monkey, which very disturbing. Still, I can’t help but to feel bad for Mai since she didn’t get licked once, but twice. There is no wonder why she doesn’t want to get near the monkey again. She fears that she would get assaulted again.
As for the other tricks in the book, the girls posed for the monkey, but failed to lure them out the water. The Trojan horse trick failed as well since the little monkeys eventually weighed them down, thus causing their cover to get blown so easily. For their last attempt, Haruhiko painted Mai’s butt red to successfully to attract the monkey out of the water and it worked, until the other monkeys put a bucket of red paint which Mai accidentally steps into. To me, I can’t help to feel sympathetic towards her while Haruhiko gets the better end of the stick. He had to summon an octopus to save Mai and subdue the big monkey.
While I wished that the girls would give the monkeys the justice it deserved by sealing it, it’s a fun episode in a silly way since the series is already aware that it doesn’t take itself seriously. Even so, there were some cute moments with Reina trying to do a pose which makes her look cute compared to being attractive. Also, the expression on Koito’s face as she tries to smile was amusing. It looks as if she was about to murder the monkeys. Still, I’m glad that the teacher stepped in and make Haruhiko their sacrificial lamb by having him dress as a female monkey and marry him off with the monkeys so that they can get rid of the Phantom for good. Given that he wasn’t scared by the monkey compared to the girls on his Phantom hunting team, I think it’s a good compromise. Mai’s team will surely survive without him since he is useless without his sketchbook.
