With Shirou successfully surviving from Gilgamesh’s Ea, now the real fight begins.
Generally, Shirou should be having a hard time against Gilgamesh, but it doesn’t seem like it. Besides having a huge mana supply, he also has that plot armor that is protecting him, which in turn makes it possible for him to beat Gil. Of course, he also has Archer saving him after the battle from being dragged into the grail by Gilgamesh. Even so, I can imagine how much stronger the plot armor will be in Heaven’s Feel now that we saw the one in Unlimited Blade Works.
Still, I have to admit that the battle with Shirou and Gilgamesh looked awesome. Probably, this is the only time we will see Shirou be this badass in summoning his own version of Unlimited Blade Works, manage to duplicate and neutralize all of Gilgamesh’s swords and of course landing a final blow. In other words, Shirou did the impossible and managed to defeat the strongest servant and of course, it couldn’t be done without Gilgamesh’s hubris by going too easy on him.
On the other hand, while Rin almost lost hope as part of the grail captured her, Archer out of nowhere managed to save her at the last-minute before Saber destroys the grail. While it’s sad to see Saber go, at least Rin bid farewell to Archer and promises to prevent Shirou from going down the same path.
As a whole, I was happy with how the fights went. Now that the Grail War came to an end with Rin being victorious, I wonder how many cute moments we are going to have with Rin and Shirou in the epilogue. Hopefully, the last episode will be a nice conclusion to Unlimited Blade Works before the long wait for the Heaven’s Feel movie.
Gilgamesh arrogance is what ultimately causes all of his losses in this franchise. It spans back to his actual epic too, he absolutely refuses to use Ea on people he doesn’t view to be near his equal. It’s the only weapon that Shirou/Archer can’t trace, so he missed out on his opportunity. There’s also his armor too – “who would need to wear armor when squashing a bug”, after all?
Shirou gets more chances to be badass in Heaven’s Feel. 😛 There’s this progression in FSN where Shirou becomes more and more of a BAMF fate -> UBW -> HF.
Yep, the lack of armor is also an issue to… If Gil had it on, perhaps Shirou would have a harder time, even if he doesn’t uses Ea. I guess it’s bound to happen given his narcissism and arrogance.
But yep, can’t wait to see him in Heaven’s Feel, it’s going to be fun.
