Will Kumiko get pigeonholed to the euphonium again as she tries to mend her relationship with Reina?
From the look of things, the whole choosing to do it for fun thing versus competing in nationals is very relatable. While I agree that they should have fun, I also feel that one should leave an everlasting impression by aiming for nationals. I have to admit that during my only year participating in marching band, I have to work hard like everyone else, but at the same time, I had a lot of fun with my friends and created a lot of memories.
It’s understandable why Aoi doesn’t want to compete. Maybe it’s because of how Reina reacted. Still, I’m glad that everyone decided to continue to aim for the nationals instead of taking it easy. After all, they might make it this time and actually make the top spot if the whole group works hard.
As expected, Kumiko is pigeonholed to the euphonium once again as Aoi spills the beans again and shatters her dream of playing another instrument. However, I have to admit that Kumiko simply overreacted over the time she made Reina cry when they didn’t advance to nationals. While the resolution was anti-climatic, it was a realistic outcome considering that Reina probably forgotten or gotten over it. She is aware that it’s not the end the world and that she has another shot at it. The time just simply didn’t come yet.
Overall, I enjoy the approach they are taking with the story. Everyone in the concert band seems serious about making nationals, given the vote along with the teacher and the advisor playing an active role in the club. Still, I have to admit that Asuka got to be the best girl besides Kumiko since she is so cheerful and energetic. It seems that she wanted Kumiko so badly, especially after discovering that she played the euphonium. As they say, once you play the euphonium, you never go back. Aside from that, I can’t wait to see how they sound when they start practicing.
Asuka, Sapphire and Hazuki are my top three right now.
Kumiko and Kousaka’s deal is little more than a clash of egos so it does not interest me. Hope they settle things quickly but since there are still 10 episodes to go it is unlikely.
Show has been good so far but not enough to warrant a “best of the season” rating, not yet.
I agree as I find the other characters equally as enjoyable, but of course Asuka is the best girl right now… Hopefully once we learn more about Reina, I guess it will depend..
But aside from that, the real action haven’t started yet since they are still setting up, but hopefully things will pick up from here.
