For a while now, I have always wondered about the elemental fairies since they receive a good amount of screen time (besides the mascots of course) and that each girl has a unique personality. At last, they finally get their own episode.
From the look of it, I never knew that the elemental fairies couldn’t work together at all. Previous episodes, especially with the last one hinted that they had a problem working as a team. This episode finally confirms it. It seems that they haven’t gotten used to each other even when Latifa invited them to have Sukiyaki. While Syiphy ignores the whole thing, Salama ends up arguing with Muse after she refused to turn off her smart phone. After an argument broke out, Koboli tries to break it up. Unfortunately, it gets worse with Muse becoming upset at Salama again when she pretends to press the red button. This results in a chain reaction with Muse ultimately bumping her head into the button. The end result: the castle goes on complete lockdown mode with defenses activated. I understand why they would have it since they don’t want the enemy attack the king or the princess. Still, it’s strange to have the button there when there is no external threat.
As for the trials, while the activities for each trial felt like they came from an amusement park with the punishment being trivial at best, I’m glad the girls went though it since they started to understand how to work as a team. Teamwork is all about working together and combining each other’s strengths in order to reach a common goal. Sure, each girl might be bad at certain things as seen with Salama’s inability to sing, Koboli being unable to dance properly and Muse completely intimidated by the words she has to type on the screen, they are good at other things. With Muse’s singing, Syiphy’s dancing and Salama’s typing, they were able to cancel out the deadweight for each activity after failing the first time.
When it comes to the final trial where one has to vote on a member to be sacrificed, they end up picking themselves despite their past disagreements or being the weakest member for a certain activity. While I was moved by their decision to not betray each other, it shows that finally realize the meaning of teamwork. Even so, I’m surprised that Syiphy didn’t have any apparent weakness. This makes me wonder if she is some kind of genius.
Overall, this episode feels like an Anime original since the author of the series had no idea how to incorporate the elemental fairies into the overall story. With the anime adaptation, it seems that he finally figured it out when he wrote the script for this episode. Because of this, it would be interesting to see how the elemental fairies will be incorporated into the source material with this change and in future episodes. Aside from that, Latifia looked adorable in a nurse’s outfit during the whole ordeal. With that, it seems that Seiya’s and Latifa’s past will finally come into play next time with her finally revealing it to Isuzu.
I cried after seeing this post of yours. I am behind with Amagi but I am so happy to see that my wish came true, a Fairy Quartet episode.
I seriously hope they will appear more in future episodes since I enjoyed this episode quite a lot.
Righteous!
