Now that Shirou is dragged into becoming a Master, what did he learn from Kirei?
Believe it or not, while Shirou hasn’t acted like an idiot yet, I have a feeling that Kirei is being passively aggressive towards him. While he doesn’t mention that he won the last grail war, he is well aware that that he faced his father towards the end of the fourth Grail War. Not only that, his talk about killing Masters and servants being able to change their masters feels like he is teasing Rin about something she doesn’t about regarding her father. Regardless what happens in the war, it seems that Shirou does not want a repeat of what happened 10 years ago and decides to become Saber’s master for real.
While much of the episode is spent on Kirei explaining what is the Grail War is about, I admit that Rin still manages to be enjoyable. She even complained about Shirou not being worthy of having Saber. Either way, it seems that she will be helping him as Illya comes to pick a fight with Shirou and Saber in his first battle in the war. It makes me wonder how good it will look next time. I guess we have to wait until next week!
Rin IS on the cover of both the movie and anime adaptations of UBW so why she is not the star is beyond me. Only explanation is the usual “Man-Dung’s the series’ protagonist so we cannot break the status quo”. Another theory is because UBW is the arc that, if the show will be similar to the movie, tried to make Man-Dung a badass. Saying that made me vomit inside.
I hope the TV series will be less cringeworthy although I haven’t watched the movie myself since I never finished the original season. But yes, it’s clear that Rin knows that Shirou is unworthy to have Saber. But still, I look forward to the next fight.
