Weekly Anime Impressions – Summer 2014 – Week 7

Believe it or not, girls with animal ears are cute… Too bad Yaya didn’t wear the cat ears.

Glasslip

After watching this episode, it seems that everything that happened thus far is starting to make sense. Apparently, Touko’s friends in some way are trying to drive away Kakeru because they believe that his anti-social behavior is going to break the friendship. Not only that, Sacchi wanted to sabotage Touko’s date with him by inviting everyone to the beach. Sadly, it was a complete failure that ended up hurting Hiro’s feelings as he was being used.

At the same time, I blame Touko for being oblivious about the whole thing in regard to Kakeru making her become distant with her friends as a result of his anti-social behavior. While we don’t know why he does not get along with his mother, it was interesting to see him talk with imaginary copies of himself.  Still, Yanagi blaming him because Yuki can no longer be cool is unwarranted. Unless Kakeru instructed Hina to do that, they are basically using him as a scapegoat, which in turn makes the tensions between them even worse.

Hanayamata

With Yaya becoming devastated over her band not making the cut, she faces yet another problem. The members decided to disband, causing her to become jealous and upset at the same time. At some point, she unintentionally says that she hates her friends even though she doesn’t mean it. Like most tsundere characters, it seems that she has a hard time admitting her feelings that she takes it out on the Yosakoi Club. Thankfully, Naru’s and Hana’s ambush at the end allowed Yaya was able to move on and resolve her differences so that she can focus on the Yosakoi Club instead.

Still, I admit that the girls look cute with the animal ears and tails, especially Tami with fox ears and tail.

Free Eternal Summer

Although it was not surprising to see Iwatobi lose against Samezuka at the relay race, it’s such a shame since they worked so hard. At least they qualified for the next round, meaning that they have another chance to make it. Not only that, it seems that Haruka and Rin got scouted, which makes me wonder if the former will actually take up the offer. I think he will decide when the time is ready.

As for Sosuke, it seems that he blanked out for a moment, which makes me wonder if he is hiding something or have some kind of illness. Either way, we’ll find out before the nationals arrive.
