From the looks of it, Steph’s grandfather might not be that foolish after all.
While there is no game in this week’s episode for the fact that Sora and Shiro is trying to find out what kind of game the werebeasts are playing against their opponent, we finally get some backstory concerning Steph’s grandfather. Apparently nobody managed to beat them (not even the elves) and got their memories about the game wiped clean. The only person that knows about it is the last king. It’s true that Sora does not view humankind that highly because most of them, including himself are unable to do something that is initially impossible to accomplish. However, when he met Shiro for the first time, it’s only when he realized that there are some people who have potential. After all, not every person is created equal.
It’s apparent that her grandfather is one of those people Sora talked about who apparently lost 8 times to get some idea how the game worked. Although he is not the best at games, at least he was able to do one thing that the other races couldn’t do. He strategically took advantage the fact that the werebeasts will not erase his memories. From there, he strategically sacrificed the lands that have precious metals humans can’t technologically use to get the full details, record them and hope that his successor will manage to beat them. It’s true that most people will view him has foolish for the fact that he gambled away carelessly, I think it’s a smart strategy (although it’s a very risky one) on his part as he managed the stuff that will enable humanity to stage a comeback someday. So, I guess Steph is pretty useful after all despite getting bullied countless times. I’m hoping that the two will finally treat her better now from this realization although I highly doubt it.
As a whole, it seems that Sora and Shiro have everything they need to beat the werebeasts in the next episode. Sure, Kurami/Clammy still feels bitter about her defeat against “Blank” and thinks the werebeasts are helping them. I think she is in for a nasty surprise, especially if the two manages to beat them. Either way, I can’t wait to see how they look. I think they will most likely be adorable cat/dog girls, but who knows.
