We already know who won from the looks of Kurami’s face. Now, what Sora and Shiro will do to restore faith in humanity?
As mentioned from last time, every chess piece have a mind of their own and basically, Sora took advantage of that fact when he realizes that it’s not an ordinary game of chess. Still, it’s funny to see Kurami having to take the dictator route without realizing that each one had a bad ending throughout history. Although her loss felt anti-climatic as one of her pieces assassinated her own king, it shows one of the important aspects, which plays a big part in Sora’s speech: one can’t solely rely on special abilities/tricks to win all the time.
I admit that the speech he gave to the people was rather interesting and emotional. He outright admits that humans are weak because they don’t have any advantages compared to other races. Of course this is true for the fact that regardless of the race, an ability or strategy can only take you so far before your opponent realizes it. For instance, if you study magic, you can manipulate your opponent and win most of the time. On the other hand, what if someone thwarts your magic or a cheap/overused strategy that is reliant on luck? You will be screwed as seen with Kurami for the fact one hasn’t mastered the game as a result of using only cheap tricks instead of intelligence.
Let’s take another example. For instance, suppose you are having a Pokémon match with your friend and choose to use evasion moves like Double Team or Minimize so that your opponent’s move will miss most of the time. What if your opponent manages to use Taunt and then Haze to remove your evasion boost? You are basically screwed for the fact that you relied on luck to win, not actual strategy. In short, he basically says that a person will only get better at a certain skill or game through practice, experience and learning from failure while thinking outside the box. That way, humans will eventually be able to outwit other races that solely rely on their abilities.
As a whole, this episode serves as a transitional one to set up Sora’s and Shiro’s plan that will regain the formal glory of Imanity. While I found it hilarious to see Sora and Shiro have a card tournament with over 200 rounds to determine the title of king, I’m quite curious how they will regain their lost territory so that they can reach the goal of challenging Tet. I guess we’ll find out as they enter the first phase of the plan as they challenge Flugel for information.
