At last, we find out the main reason Satone received hardly any screen time thus far.
I admit that while I was happy to see Yuuta’s and Rikka’s relationship make some progress, I started to wonder about Satone as she hardly received any screen time in the past few episodes. She finally receives a good amount of screen time as she gives a special item to Yuuta so he can recall the memories he had with her. It seems that she developed feelings for him when they were in middle school, which caused her to start losing her Chuunibyou side of herself. She ends up giving everything up except her illusions to remain the person she is now.
Although I felt bad for her for the fact that she had to give up her feelings for Yuuta, it does show a big difference between her and Rikka. While Rikka has romantic feelings for him too, she hasn’t lost her Chuunibyou at all. Maybe not being aware of her Chuunibyou is the main reason she hasn’t digressed yet? Who knows, but I’m curious if Satone will continue fighting against Rikka over Yuuta now that she revealed the truth.
With Satone finally revealing her past, I wonder what will happen between her and Rikka? Will she help them progress their relationship or become her rival to win back Yuuta’s heart? To me, I think the latter will happen because she is unwilling to give up, especially for the fact that she still has a crush on him from all that flirting. Even so, I wonder what’s up with Mori Summer’s website since Sanae knows nothing about it? Is the person behind it trying to revive Mori Summer inside Shinka or steal Sanae away from her? I’m guessing that it could be Kumin or Yuuta’s sister since they have so much free time, but who knows. We’ll probably find out when they return from their class trip.
Yessssss! Finally, Satone gets some worthy screentime!
I think the whole dynamic between Satone, Yuuta and Rikka is starting to become really cleverly drawn out, although there are some obvious pitfalls it can fall into from here. So far, it’s avoided being an irritating love triangle, which is GREAT!
What really struck me about Satone’s dilemma is how she chooses her chuunibyou over love, as if in her mind love means growing up past the chuuni stuff. Which definitely makes sense. It would come full circle if Rikka ends up coming upon the same dilemma – that in order for her relationship with Yuuta to really progress, she comes to feel as if she needs to sacrifice something. So far, there’s been a lack of conflict in their relationship, so I’m wondering how they’ll go about handling the inevitable drama.
I think you might be right, about Satone maybe stepping in as a full-fledged love rival. But I wouldn’t want that to happen, and from the way that whole scene between Rikka and Satone was portrayed, I like to think that Satone wouldn’t bring herself to come between the two of them. I certainly do agree that she still has latent feelings for Yuuta, though. I wonder how she’ll move on from that, without sacrificing her chuunibyou. Because the way I see it, she clutches onto her chuunibyou as a way to avoid having to think about things like her own feelings. If she’s a chuuni, she never has to think about getting her heart broken, you know? She talks a lot about bringing out Yuuta’s Dark Flame Dragon, which makes me think that the whole story here is about acknowledging what you feel but don’t want to admit. Yuuta acknowledging his chuuni self, Satone acknowledging that she loves him, etc. Then there’s the whole Fake Mori Summer subplot, which I think is building up to Nibutani assuming her old identity in the end.
Ironically enough, it’s Rikka who’s being the most honest here out of everyone. Dat confession at the end. DAT CONFESSION. Hrrrnnnnngggghhhhhhhh~
So um wow I think this comment was longer than your actual post. I’ll shut up now.
While I apologize for the slow response due to my mild cold, I think there is a lot of interesting things that is going on. Spoilers aside for the recently aired episode, it seems that Rikka is indeed heading in that direction as her power started to fade when she attempted to resurrect Mori Summer inside Shinka, but she fails. I wonder how she will deal with issue too. Perhaps Satone might be the key factor that decides this. We’ll see.
