Since the world Kyousuke created is coming to an end, how will Riki and Rin fare when they have to face reality?
The main reason this episode felt very emotional to me is for the fact that Masato, Kengo and Kyousuke had to bid farewell so Riki and Rin can live on. I think this mostly has to do with Riki and Rin having strong bonds with them and because of that, they fear that they will never get to see them again. While it’s sad to see them go, at the same time, Riki would have taken the wish Kyousuke and the others made for granted if he stayed, especially for the fact that he put a lot of effort into becoming stronger. Because of that, they had to accept their farewell no matter how sad it is.
To me, Kyousuke bursting out of tears pretty much sets the mood for this and the finale for the fact that nobody wanted to die in the accident. It’s clear that he wants to be with Riki and Rin forever, but can’t because of reality. It’s true that life is unfair at times since unfortunate things may happen even if you don’t want it. However, it doesn’t have to be that way since one has the power to change his/her fate. Considering that Riki and Rin matured through out the course of the story, especially in recent episodes, I think there is a better chance of them saving more than one life rather than being the only survivors. Therefore, not all hope is lost even though it will be difficult.
As the world Kyousuke created comes to an end as Riki and Rin walks through the school gates, how will they cope with the bus crash? Although the finale looks depressing for the fact that there are a lot of injuries and deaths, how many actual survivors there will be while Kyousuke covers up the gas tank leak? We’ll find out next week.
While the extra arcs (focusing on three more characters) will get covered in another special, it’s kind of sad to see the second season end. Compared with the prequel, I felt that JC Staff improved its production values this sequel quite a lot as seen when they presented the drama, especially in the more recent episodes. Hopefully we’ll see the same level of quality when they adapt the additional arcs from Ecstasy next year.
