Hyperdimension Neptunia the Animation – Episode 12 (END) – Final Showdown and the Power of Friendship

September 29, 2013 by Chikorita157 2 Comments
From the looks of it, Rei is plain insane to attack the innocent bystanders.
From the looks of it, Rei is plain insane to attack the innocent bystanders.

Will Rei get her way and destroy the entire world? Nope.

While things look grim for Neptune as Rei steals shares from everyone and even tried to target the civilians, she is just plain evil and insane. I’m glad that the other goddesses finally came to come save the day with Blanc destroying the share stealing device along with the teamwork from the other goddesses to allow Neptune to destroy the floating continent of Tari. While she did a last-ditch attempt to attack the citizens, thankfully that didn’t happen with the goddesses absorbing the attack. Even so, I wonder about Rei as we only saw the surface of her problems leading to her nation being destroyed. Still, it’s quite obvious given the crash that happened in real life.

Magiquone clearly doesn't want Rei be the one to destroy the world.

At the end, I’m happy that the goddesses are now on very good terms and manage to rebuild Planeptune. The battle against Rei was good even though there was a lot of damage. Hopefully now since they don’t need a treaty anymore, hopefully there won’t be any more real fights and just focus on fighting piracy once in a while.

While Rom and Ram looks adorable, they almost have the same appearance to Blanc.

Final Thoughts

While I had mixed feelings about this franchise initially because Idea Factory and Compile Heart had a pretty bad track record making mediocre games and the first game from the trilogy felt unfinished because it was filled with bugs and questionable design choices, mostly due to not having a big enough budget. I admit, the characters along with references to video game culture are the main appeal and I enjoyed them when I got to play through Neptune Idol game. Their character designs and personalities were enjoyable.

As for this Anime, I think they did a pretty good job showing the main stories of the second and third games that were well received. While there were some missing details, especially regarding Rei’s past as the show only scraped the surface. But aside from that, I enjoyed all the characters and the battles. Hopefully with the remake of the first game won’t disappoint when it releases in October considering that Compile Heart had put a lot of effort in the last 2-3 games.

Overall Rating: 8.8/10, B+, Very Good
